I wonder given the reversal … how many people won’t get back in line and how much equity just went poof. All because of a poorly considered email and policy.

Again, it's not loyalty. You have no idea what loyalty is about.

You're crying so badly and backpedaling because you got too emotionally wrapped up in a false sense of loyalty.

And you didn't even understand the wording on the agreement when you put down your deposit. That's another source of your temper tantrums on here. So convenient that you ignored that when I brought it up, right? You felt entitled to interpret it any way you wanted and so you accused the company of bait-and-switch (which you also don't know the meaning of).
Yep, I’m just a bubbling baby. I understand prices are subject to change, and it said that in a reservation fine language, but they knew well ahead of time that they had to raise prices, and did not adjust accordingly until deliveries were ready to begin. You do realize that Tesla and other auto makers sell you the order at the price you place it at right? Even if they raise it in-between your order and the next, that is standard industry practice and is expected.

What I didn’t understand was people who ordered around the same time being told they didn’t have to pay a 17-20% inflated price because their delivery was occurring a week before mine.

I’m sure they’re glad to have a blind fan boy that will pay whatever price they put in front of you, and doesn’t expect them to execute on anything they promise or promote.

And I’ll just leave this definition of bait and switch for you here, I’m done interacting with you troll:

“the action (generally illegal) of advertising goods which are an apparent bargain, with the intention of substituting inferior or more expensive goods.”

Wow! Just received an email from Rivian that they made a mistake and any orders prior to March 1, 2022 the original pricing will be honored.

An impressive move.

So you finally read the agreement that you should have understood before your ranting started.

And then you turn around with a quote that shoots down the entire foundation of your argument.

But, hey, keep accusing others of name-calling (re-read your post if you don't understand).

You did all the work for me! Thanks!

Lesson learned by RJ and RIVIAN but also (hopefully) lesson learned by many of us as well. There was some pretty harsh rhetoric used against RJ and RIVIAN over the last couple of days here….lots of short fuses, threats, many of us turning on each other too, insults, etc. I was very disappointed and a bit angry too at how they handled the price increase, but as we all see and do ourselves in life, a mistake was made, and RJ owned up to it and has made it right. We should all acknowledge our own times in life when we said or did something wrong or made a mistake. In the end, we should all be happy that this mistake was made right, including for all of those that cancelled their reservations. Lesson learned for the future is to take a few deep breaths, be patient and trust that sometimes the person (or company) that wronged you isn’t evil or didn’t premeditate hurting us and to give them a bit of time to make it right. Waiting a few days wouldn’t have hurt any of us. Our reservations weren’t going anywhere and nothing was getting delivered at a higher price yet anyway. The way all this played out is actually a good reflection of so much about how we treat each other in today’s society. I think we can all do better….RJ, RIVIAN, us

Pricing hasn't yet been updated on their website. I wouldn't be totally surprised if that takes a couple of days.

While I think a few people got out of hand during the discussion, it goes to show that Rivian saw a lot more than just a few hundred canceling.

Good to those that stood by their decision, regardless of the side you were on, and hopefully we can all move past this.

Welcome back brothers and sisters.

Can we get a thread now where the people who didn't cancel can fight with the people who did because they are the TRUE Rivian loyalists and because they stood by the company rather than throwing a tantrum and fleeing at the first sign of trouble they deserve an extra 5k off the purchase price for not being Rivian posers and weathering the storm. I want outrage that the "quitters" are getting the same deal as the people who cared enough to buy Rivian at any cost.

Please?

I wonder how many YouTubers are having to reedit their videos on latest Rivian news?
yep, this thread and the social media "influencers" have documented a 24 hour embarrassing episode in self-involved ass-hattery.

Interesting to note the people here who expressed circumspection and reason; others who threw a temper tantrum. Rivian is dealing with an almost cancel-culture meets Karen level of entitlement amongst people who swiped $1000 on the credit card and need to speak with the manager.

I'm impressed to see Rivian meet the problem head on and offer a generous solution, but I don't think it solves the problem of customers with irrational expectations.

I didn't read all of this because it's nonsense, but today's email CLEARLY shows there is significant elasticity for this car just like any other.
Fortunately you offer only one sentence.
The change by Rivian doesn't reflect elasticity, it's marketing and communication.
It would be cynical without any evidence to suggest RJ and Rivian are just sales people who reacted to losing a handful of customers they never had (and who will presumably not go on to purchase their pre-order anyway.)
This is a communications blunder and they're trying to hose off the monkey shit thrown by an irrational minority. Such is the business of marketing these days – dealing with Karens and cancel-culture.

5 min before that came out, I tweaked my config... hope that doesnt screw up my old pricing.. I reverted back to original config after I saw the note. My changes were adding in the Cargo Cover (which was included in my Adventure package initially) and then removing it once I saw the note. Assume that is ok.

What I didn’t understand was people who ordered around the same time being told they didn’t have to pay a 17-20% inflated price because their delivery was occurring a week before mine.
That seems to be the evidence that this was a planned action, not a bungled price change. The rationale is they offered the down-spec 2-motor to keep the price point. I guess that's a group-think outcome, but did they not sound this out with anyone outside the C suite bubble?
That they kept the price on vehicles in production this build window suggests – to me – that they expected the blowback, but to a lesser extent than arose on social media, with the expectation of filling the order book for the next build window from the pre-order queue (which still makes more sense to me as the thing they need to do, to set realistic price expectations, just without the abrupt price adjustments.)
The bottom line for me is Rivian didn't gouge me on my R1T pre-order and given the expected $16,000 for Max, getting Max at $10K on my R1S order makes it a "bargain" in 2023. Arguably, if I were accounting down to the dollar, I'd just "flip" my R1T to a "first kid on the block" buyer and wait for the R1S. But I'm self-indulgent – I'll use the R1T and put it to work till the R1S is delivered.
