It will be very interesting to hear if Rivian is still getting pre-orders at the new price. I watched a YouTube video last night talking about "Price Gate" and if there is no demand at the higher price, Rivian is screwed. If Rivian needs higher prices to be profitable and everyone cancelled due to the higher price, where does Rivian go from here? I am fortunate (?) to have a later LE delivery (June/July) and another reservation for Oct/Dec. If my LE is ready early, I will take delivery no doubt. If the delivery is within a day or two of their next earnings call, I may drag my feet and see what RJ has to say. I know we will all love the R1T and R1S, but if there is no market for them in the future, we are screwed long-term.

I would have paid 104k. Yes, there is demand.

It feels like you're ignoring the fact that you can still get vehicles close to the original prices albeit with less features.

In any case, I wasn't an R1S buyer at $96k but I did "downgrade" to the LE R1T at $86 - so there is demand in that price range.

Yes, I would have paid.

I kept my order when the price increased. Was sad for about 5 minutes, then continued with my day. There is no other vehicle at this price point which offers what the Rivian (R1S) has.

Of course when they went back on the pricing, it made me happy (for 5 minutes lols).

It's really, really interesting. While people are using the "no other car that does __" argument that won't be true 2 years from now when they make it through pre-orders and the price increase hits.

There will be abundant competition for the R1T/R1S by 2024, much of it available for less money.

As inflation goes, by the time the vehicles at those prices hit production they will still be a bargain.

I think the lower trim is a good option and maybe the sweet spot, but really curious how much demand there will be near $100K. It certainly won't be what they predicted.

I don't think it's fair to assume that in the next few years other manufacturers will pick up efficiencies and be able to reduce prices to offer strong competition without assuming that Rivian can also achieve improvements in efficiencies and adjust their pricing as well.

A similarly optioned Lightning is basically the same price as the pre-order R1T. After the price change, there is a delta, but the R1T is also more capable in the ways that matter to the target demographic than the F150E will be.

I will be utterly surprised the first time I see an electric truck designed and intended for off-road use that comes in drastically under the pricing of the R1T.

Look at the demand for a less capable Tesla Model X, if you go in and configure one today it is 115k.

I was ready to write the check at 93k for my R1S if I had to.

It may be a little smaller at first with people wishing they got in before but ultimately it will remain relatively high, especially for the dual motors once they come out. I still think they need to slap some matrix headlights in, really big feature for night drives now that they're allowed in US.

Is there demand? Sure. Question is, would there be enough demand to keep Rivian as a viable company?

I would have paid for everything but the kitchen. With maybe the exception of a Gucci ram EV, nothing else seems to be in the same ballpark.
