R1S Updated Timeline - Per My Guide

My R1S pre-order went in about six weeks after yours and my delivery window has always been April-May. It will be interesting to see if that holds. I have noticed R1T pre-orders are compressing during fulfillment. More T vs S orders could compress things more....

You should be first half of 2023 at the latest. I am an October 21 order and am first half of 2023. I estimate June, now this may move back a couple of months but you order 8 months ahead of me.

My delivery window is Oct-Dec 2022, so you might be correct. However, I would prefer to expect it later and then be pleasantly surprised. Certainly, we will all get a much better idea for timing once R1S customer production/deliveries take form.

Have my F150 day 1 reservation that I need to $hit or get off the pot for by 3/31. Looks like it would be very similarly priced to the R1S, and truth be told I really have no love for the Lightning, but my confidence in Rivian timing is low. Maybe I should watch a few Lightning YouTube videos and see whether they change my mind.

I wouldn't make any broad assumptions about delivery windows being pushed back. As the R1T has shown, things can go from hopeless to exciting in a matter of days. Maybe plan for the latter half of your delivery estimate, but know that once they start shipping your delivery window could potentially come quickly.

If timing is enough of an issue that you'd consider switching to the F-150 Lightning, then why not just switch to the R1T? That would provide more certainty in your delivery window as they are already building and shipping them in volume. You could also hedge your bets and order the Lightning anyway, and even if you decided not to take it I'm sure your dealer would be happy to sell it to someone else with a huge markup.

No official numbers, but several polls in the community indicate an approximate 60/40 split in favor of the R1T.

I have a day one R1S reservation as well (#1673 if that actually means anything), but not a peep from Rivian. I did receive the e-mail saying something would happen March-April 2022, but we're almost out of March. I'm waiting for the next e-mail that kicks the can down the road 2 more months.

I did have an interesting question for customer service that they were unable to answer about the First Mile drive events. I spoke with someone named CeCe today. My first question was, if I schedule a First Mile drive event in an R1T, will I get an opportunity to drive an R1S at some point in the future when they become part of these events? I don't know if each pre-order holder is only entitled to 1 First Mile reservation. CeCe didn't know the answer to this, and just kept telling me "that they're essentially the same, and if you like the R1T, you'll love the R1S". Even so, not a real answer. They also couldn't give me any kind of guesstimate about when a guide might contact me, but did say that the delivery windows for R1S had NOT changed.

I also have concerns that my Canyon Red R1S reservation's going to be pushed out quite a ways just because of the color I selected. Red seems super rare. I saw the LE Green and it looked to me like every other putty-colored car I've seen recently...

They are definitely building Red Canyon R1Ts, but it's a low volume color compared to the others. I wouldn't expect any significant delays of your R1S due to it.

Where are you coming up with this delivery window info? I have a Feb. ’22 preorder and, while I’m certainly in no rush, it would be entertaining to have a window estimate, regardless of whether it’s remotely accurate ? I was actually expecting, even hoping for, 2024.

Had we not already gotten the Polestar 2 I would totally be doing that. At this stage of the Lightning ordering process I think it’s possible the R1S will actually arrive first.
