Just guessing, but it could be that they are just trying to price items more based on customers perceived value, and Rivian got some updated info that makes rivian think customers value OC enough to pay more.
They had several years of data on what some people liked more, based on the pre-order configurations. Many people are willing to pay more for an exterior color (me included), why not charge more for an interior color.

As for getting people to switch from OC to BM, maybe OC does cost more. Or maybe Rivian has more BM right now so they are just trying to get trucks to customers who have been waiting years. A lot of people would complain that if the color was holding them back they would change it. It's also possible Rivian has "X" amount of people that ordered OC, but "Y" amount they can make, limited by one or more items (like the wood). So some may get OC and others switch to BM when the guides call, and some of them that switched will complain in 3 months that they switched for nothing.

If a Launch Edition with OC could be delayed 6 to 12 months, will Rivian still be committed to filling all Launch Edition orders before starting to fill Adventure orders?

I know there's a shortage of vegan hides because feed for the Nauga has been in real short supply ever since the feed plants were shut down back in 2020.
And I was wondering how many vegan hides were needed to upholster the interior of either of the R1's?

The Rivian design team nailed the Forest Edge interior. It's the perfect tone of green and will compliment a Midnight Black exterior. I am looking forward to seeing a member post photos of this combo.

While we’re all speculating . . .

Probably just Rivian’s supplier having trouble delivering OC dashboards. I assume the whole dashboard (or at least a major portion) is likely a sub-assembly that gets built somewhere else, and dropped into the car on the assembly line.

Rivian probably can’t give a true estimate because the supplier is still scheduled to deliver more OC sub-assemblies by next month but can’t guarantee delivery.

I’m pretty sure that if it gets to the point that 3 conditions are met:
1) Rivian cannot build any more LE orders with the parts they have available
2) The remaining LE order-holders have refused to switch their configuration to something which can be built
3) They have parts to build anything else which can be shipped out for delivery

Then they will build and ship whatever they can. Hopefully still in the order that reservations were made.

That’s a hard bullet to bite another year wait. I assume that’s mostly not true as black is one of 3 options not just the only one option. The more people opt in for black interior the less Rivian will prioritize the other options. I also think Rivian will start production soon on OC and hopefully FE by summertime. I’m in the FE ship. I think it’s worth the wait. So far it’s not unreasonable or unrealistic timeframe on Rivian’s end. Hopefully S00N

I am a Glacier white with OC interior. My guide call is Thursday. I just want to see a BM interior in person before I make the switch. May have to drive to the service center, knock on the door and hope for luck and sympathy. I also am on the fence about Launch Green and bright AT wheels.

I have reservation R1S with white exterior, i am not yet decided for interior.. I felt white exterior and OC interior will be too much white ! May be black interior will be contrast look.. but OC looks nice in images

I obviously can't speak for Rivian, but I can absolutely confirm this is a common practice. I was on a tour of the Mini factory in England. Mini dashboards are built by a supplier a few miles from the Mini factory, and shipped JIT to the factory on racks in the EXACT production schedule order. So it's not a rack of identical black "base model" dashboards, it's a rack of custom builds for each order.

I also did engineering work for a dashboard manufacturer in Ohio that OEMs instrument clusters and dashboard assemblies for several Japanese brands.

I put down $2000 for an R1T and R1S on November 27th of 2018 and finally got a Rivian Guide to reach out to me. Talked to them yesterday and they reached out to me specifically because I selected the Ocean Coast interior they wanted me to know that unless I change to the Black Mountain it may be another 6 months to a year of waiting. He really could not lock down that timeframe. So I changed to the Black Mountain interior option with the Rivian Blue. Honestly disappointed but will put up with it. I wanted the lighter interior as where I live in San Diego the summers can get very hot, will be cooling down the truck from their app a LOT!

Now I am told it will be 1st or 2nd week of April to take delivery so that is AMAZING news!

I also ordered the camp kitchen, turns out those don't exist. As in outside a few demo units they do not exist. The guide has never seen one in person. Also there are zero reviews of them online from anyone but Rivian. I was promised a price lock for $5k on that when they become available. Attaching newest spec sheet.

You're beating a dead horse here. They don't care until they're get their way. They're not on that 'side of the table' and at most times fail to see the greater picture as long as they get what they want (sometimes they're not even aware they're doing this due to focusing what they want).

And I DO get it. It's really frustrating to wait on something one really wants. But everyone by now knows patience is the only way they're going to get through this.

Feedback is a critical part of any cooperative process. What exactly is the issue with me contacting CS in a respectful manner to express my displeasure with the way a company is treating me after I've given them my hard-earned money? How else is Rivian leadership supposed to be made aware of the issues we as their consumers have?

Get over yourself. That's what CS is for.

I ordered OC. I guess it’s a good thing I won’t see my R1S until 2023 so hopefully they have this figured out by then. I would hate to give up the free $2,000 option.
