I may have posted here in one of the last 5 pages, but I do not remember.
Some folks (like myself) really do not like a front plate. We think it detracts from the aesthetics of the car. Other folks don't care.
Anyway, if you are not a young kid calling attention to yourself with erratic driving, large chrome wheels, and a "bumping" system, chances are no cops will bother you for a missing front plate. It is similar to tint laws.
I lived/drove in New Jersey for ~20 years and got a total of about 2 or 3 no front plate tickets. They were $41 each. I received all of them while being very young. When I was older, nothing.
I now live in SoCal where the "CHP" is "notorious" for ticketing people for things like this. After being here 10+ years I think it is all just a myth. No front plate, no issue. There aren't even a lot of them driving around. I used to commute 100 miles a day and I'd see maybe 1 cop a day if I was lucky.
Bottom line, if you don't want to run a front plate, don't. Blend in and you'll be fine. If you know for a fact you live in an area which will hassle you, then there are many options which do not mar your paint or attach in other areas.
