Do you mean that powder coating will not be able to achieve a translucent colored coat?
There is a black translucent powder coat that can replicate the black chrome look. They will sometimes spray with a chrome powder base layer first, but I'm curious how it would look with the native machined surface of the bright underneath.

Yeah, only annoying thing is, after that email we all got last night, I’m back to FE and can’t let go of Limestone and wondering how shit those two might look together..
Limestone with FE is a highly recommended option by a couple senior Rivian execs, including a top design employee. Don't fear this combo for sure.

Thank you for throwing this out there!!! I actually made my peace with it yesterday looking on the FE forum page with el cap granite the last few days. I’m just hoping to see limestone in-person at this point since it seems to be the most polarizing color ever created. And I’ve got two little kids, so being pushed into FE will be a forced blessing.

You're right - if you click through most of the options using the search link below you'll see that they are advertised as 'top coats', meaning that they will need some sort of bright chrome base to achieve the advertised look. I think the machined surface of the regular brights would qualify, but I do wonder how the already applied clear top coat changes things. Do they try to remove that first, or powder coat directly on top of the existing clear coat?
Thanks for sharing, super helpful. I added a 'transparent' filter to your second link, which pulls up all the black top coats that are transparent/translucent: https://www.prismaticpowders.com/sh...r=pris_black&finishes=pris_finish_transparent
+1 as well for FE and Limestone. With the recent OC delay I might think about reversing my green exterior / white interior preference and going for GW/FE (or Limestone/FE if I'm feeling like splurging).

I passed a transporter today carrying two R1T’s. One was GW, the other Limestone. The Limestone color was a bit of a letdown in person.
i hear you. so far for me, every other color has been better in person except for Limestone. it was not as deep/dark a grey as i had hoped nor had as much hint of green as they hyped up. to me in person and definitely online it looks too much like a bleached blue.

Hi all, new to the forum and just had guide contact this morning. I am configured for R1T limestone and 20" AT wheels. I have been wavering on getting the 20" AT dark for some time and hadn't pulled the trigger on the $3500 upgrade yet figuring I would wait and make a decision closer to guide contact. I didn't realize that just changing out wheels there is no guarantee when I will get my truck and will likely change my window. They aren't even able to give me an estimate of how much longer... few weeks vs few months.

Super frustrating as I was leaning AT dark but don't want to get set back months just for the wheels when the 20" AT are pretty nice too and $3500 less.

My question... has anyone made a last minute change (to wheels or other) and how much did this delay your truck?

Thanks

I initially configured my R1T with 20 black wheels but went back to the standard 21" wheels. The $3500 option plus the spare tire (a must) was over $4k. I wanted the $2k FE interior more than I wanted the wheels.

This is promising. Any other details you can share?

I still need to see Limestone in person. It’s chameleon nature makes photos deceptive and too hard to make a judgement call on without seeing in person.

This gray from Porsche is gorgeous. I like the bluish wheels and carbon fiber hood too.

This looks awfully similar to Limestone to me. Lighter than Nardo, though… and thankfully no carbon fiber.

I also feel I have to see Limestone in person to make a call. I currently have Limestone / FE configured but am really on the fence about whether to do Forest Green / OC instead. I do not want to drive a pale blue car.
