And a loss of Good Will which is a quantifiable asset and is included on corporate balance sheets.
Not to get pedantic, but that's a stretch on what goodwill represents. Companies don't don't just add goodwill to their BS because they assume they are worth more because of a reputational brand value they assign themselves. Goodwill is really only identified when an acquisition occurs and the purchasing entity assigns that value by paying more than the book value for the acquired company.

It's only "quantifiable" because X-Y=Z. If not for that, it's not quantifiable, which is why it's considered an intangible asset.

Where is that from? Finding that hard to believe. Feels like they misunderstood the question.
It was in the FB Rivian Owners Forum.
On the same thread this 40 day order was posted about.

If they are losing money on each truck they would be better off if everybody canceled. just sayin.
This is a good point. If they're still taking new orders at the new price point at a rate greater than they can fulfill (+10K in the last quarter), what is the real long-term downside of early order holders canceling? The first 70K pre-orders (at the original pricing) won't determine the future of the brand. The first 500K deliveries at new and future price-points will be what is critical to survival beyond their current supply of cash on hand. I know most people on this forum are likely to take this point emotionally, but if you do the math, it does make sense.

Is it possible that rivian, in their grand wisdom, are playing psychological games, encouraging new preorders by making people think there's a chance they will win the bullseye lottery and get their vehicles quickly? Just a thought...
That would be a strange strategy with a couple of years of backorders.

The simplest explanation is that the algorithm for production and delivery includes balancing service centers.

They may have staffed the Cleveland service center without considering the order queue for that area. Rivian's algorithm may first consider minimum delivery per service center per month.

Rivian hasn't shown the skill in this area for us to assume they are being clever in how they schedule who gets vehicles.

At no point was I given an estimated delivery timeframe nor assigned a Guide yet.

What’s ridiculous is I am flexible with my customization. Contacted CS a few times, and they just brush me off and tell me to wait.

I wish I could get a rough idea when to expect a Guide assignment. Also an ability to inform them of my flexibility.
I have tried communicating my flexibility too but customer service is useless other than telling me to have an adventurous day.

Nov 2020 Adventure pre-order --- was told in December of 21' Q123 delivery window since I had the max pack configured, but could order the large pack and possibly get 22' delivery window and that they'd update that in January of 22'.... after reading this I wanted to see if my delivery window had changed... nope CS still says Q1-23'.... asked why hasn't it changed and got the "well be updating delivery estimates in the coming MONTHS to reflect the December changes"..... mind you we'll be in June soon, and on Rivian's timelines a couple months, might as well be we're in 2023 by the time they even update my delivery window. What a cluster f***

I think I may have the shortest order-to-delivery time on record. I ordered on April 21st, 2022 and just got my 8-Step today and will soon schedule delivery for early next week.

It will be roughly 40 days from the day I put down my $1,000 deposit to the day the R1T is in my garage.

Full Timeline-

Order Date: April 21, 2022
Guide Contact: May 12, 2022
PBE Signed and Config Locked: May 13, 2022
VIN and 8-Step: May 25, 2022
Delivery: (Will update after I finish 8-Step)

My specific configuration is attached.

As a Rivian shareholder. This is what I want to see. People placing orders in April, May and June buying Rivians at an average higher selling price. The argument has been from long term holders, "well, maybe I'll cancel my order if they are going to deliver to other people first". I think Rivian is seeing so much demand for its product they're thinking, "Well where else are you going to go if you cancel? Ford's two-three year waiting list?" As with Teslas....the more RIvian rolls out their trucks (and SUVs), the more people see them, experience them, and want them. And if Rivian were smart, they'd sell the highest average ordered ones first regardless of order date..or at least make it a 50-50 or higher mix. Their quarterly reported losses will be a lot less which means their cash burn will be a lot less and the financial markets will react quite positively to their stock if they continue this smart trend. I hope to see more posts like these going forward.

So, not to attempt to one up the OP BUT I ordered on 5/19/22. Got email saying truck was ready to build on 5/20/22. 8 Step opened up 5/25/22. Awaiting communication on exact delivery date. Needless to say, I have been completely shocked by how fast this will be for me. See my build below (also peep the R1S I have had on order FOREVER! LOL):

Making an extra $15k on a few trucks will make no difference to the reported financials and they will have to still fulfil the original orders but at a higher price next year because of inflation.

@Gator42 yep, literally exactly what I did. I put the order in thinking it would be months-year before I would get an R1T but here we are...

One BIG problem of driving a bunch of rezzie holders to cancel is the cash loss. If just 20k say 'no thanks', Rivian is on the hook for their deposits, or $20,000,000. Not a huge hit considering the $17BN they say they have, but having to come up with it immediately wouldn't be awesome.

...that this is happening is very new, interesting, amazing information...a sign of that batching Rivian talked about, fubar distribution, unallocated configs making it to the latest on the list...embrace AND!!! All Of The Above!!!
