Truck is currently at the Cleveland SC and they are unable to determine the cause.
They have had it since Tuesday morning and originally stated it was a firmware issue but after updating and trying their DCFC, it still would not charge at level 3.
They have to get an engineer to diagnose and repair the issue and will have it for potentially another week.
Service advisor at least offered a loaner pending approval of a manager. Sounded like me being 2 hours away could hinder that.

This was clearly a Rivian issue and not an EA, Chargepoint, or EVGO charger issue.

Good news for the community but sadly bad news for you. Hopefully they learn something from this and it isn't to much of a inconvenience for you

Rivian is making it right with the loaner so no big deal to me. Early adopter tax.

I was tempted to post a new thread but decided to put my experience here. I had a very similar issue and I'm just getting back home now. In brief, last week we performed the update and prior to a road trip we tested and made sure electrify America fast charging worked, and my charge point account worked at the office. We left last Saturday and the first DC charger was a charge point. Two different locations 5. Mi apart both would not allow fast charging on the truck, we called customer service roadside assistance and did the soft reset to no avail. The decision to proceed with the road trip or turn around and go home was a tough one and we decided to try an electrify America that was 30 mi out of the way. That charging station worked and we continued on our road trip for 300 miles and use another EA charging site. During the week we trickle charged at our rental and came home yesterday. Again, a different charge point that was at the halfway point failed to connect. We then proceeded to the same electrify America charger I used on the way down. Got there. And no charging connection was established. I spent 3 hours on the phone with customer service and roadside assistance, Andrew was very nice and as helpful as he could be. But the engineer continued to try to troubleshoot the electrify America portion, having them reset the charger and try to give a free charging session, both of which did not work. My frustration was that I had almost exclusively diagnosed it to the truck, but we still went through the motions of doing all the troubleshooting on the charging side. Meanwhile, I saw another Rivian, a Ford lightning, and two ID4s charge at the same location. So I am now on the way home after spending the night in a hotel and trickle charging on a level 2 overnight. Luckily we were within two hours of my parents house who graciously came and picked up My kids and wife and got them home safely. Each time I tried to connect I would have a initial white glow at the charge connector and then it would go red after about 30 seconds. The dashboard would give me a error that said, remove plug and try again. Each connector would go through the initiating phase and then either time out or say there was a connection issue. I will try to attach pictures. Overall a very frustrating and to anotherwise good trip. I Have a R1S on order as well and this will definitely give me pause on having two vehicles from the same startup company. In short, there is something wrong with my DC fast charging CCS connector. Whether it is hardware or software, I don't know? But three different charging companies and five different charging stations have not worked.

Just found this thread.

Same issue. For reference I also have a polestar2. I’m used to a 99% success rate on EA. With the Rivian I’ve had 2/8 attempts work on the same chargers as the p2.

There has to be something wrong here.

Just as an FYI. In my experience the ‘Unplug and Try Again’ type of error is almost certainly the truck (like you assumed). For me when I have seen it 3-4 times I can do a hard reset to get charging. Ive also seen reports that a full sleep cycle will get fast charging working too.

It’s a real shame if service didn’t have you try that, because they should know by now. ThIs is a known R1T issue that they don’t seem to have a solution for.

Thanks, we did try multiple resets and did the Walk away for 30 minutes and try again. Unfortunately neither worked

Just for clarity, the wheel button reset does not work (that just resets the infotainment). The left steering wheel button + hazard reset does.

Prior to walking away the gear guard and alarm need to be turned off or the vehicle won't sleep.

You may have done both of those, but wanted to add details in case others run into similar issues.

Thanks for the additional info. We did do the left wheel button and hazard reset, but for the walk away we were not told to turn gear guard off and alarm--maybe that would have helped? Will try again later but 18hrs later and now just unpacking the truck.

Sounds about the same as my situation.
Hopefully I have an answer this week that I can share.

Any chance you have a Rivian Wall Charger that gets pretty warm but not hot when charging?
From day 1 I've noticed how warm the charger, conduit and breaker all get while charging MY R1T. First time charging the loaner however, no heat issues.
Not sure if they are related but i'm pretty curious now.

Don't have a wall charger yet so have only done trickle charging thus far, electricians are installing the outlets currently but will let you know if I notice anything heat related. It did have a couple of nights where no range was added after leaving plugged in, but attributed that more to the vampire drain and/or potentially oversensitive Bluetooth connection to the key/phone.

Everyone has problems with CCS but not to this extent. It's pretty plain there is a problem with your truck.

Sorry for your trouble but thanks for posting this. I haven't tried CCS yet and wouldn't want to find out about it on our uocoming long trip. I'm going to go give it s try.
Given your profession, I figured you may be a knowledgeable source. If you recall, my Rivian wall charger was one that got fairly warm while charging even though it was within it's temp rating.
My loaner R1T does not cause the charging cable, conduit or breaker to become as warm.

Is there any possible correlation between the excess warmth and the DCFC charging not working?
A fuse or sensor within the charging port that shuts it down?
I know they are two different types of charging, on board and direct but just grasping at straws for fun.

Of course I don’t really know but if I were the one in charge of the investigation you can bet that I’d be checking that possibility.

First road trip from Toledo to Cincinnati to watch the Braves play. Parked the car for the game and was able to plug into a J1772 plug for the duration. After the game we were about 50 miles short which was planned so we headed to an EA charger. Tried 5 of the 10 with no luck. EA was worthless and claimed no error on their end but quick to dismiss it. Rivian went through the basic troubleshooting with no solution.
They suggested trying a L2 charger and then trying the DCFC again. Found a 50kw CCS on our way and again, no charging. Then found a 7kw J1772 which worked so we charged for a few minutes and headed to another EA charger. Once there, again tried nearly all with no luck. At this point we were about 180 miles from home with 140 range. Wouldn’t have cared if I was alone but had my 7 year old daughter with me who was exhausted. After multiple other chargers via PlugShare, no CCS charger would work. Tried a 24kw plug and finally the last EA on our route. Finally gave up and am currently about 95 miles from home at a Hilton that is on Rivian tonight.
This is my first experience with any CCS charger and wondering if anyone else has had a CCS issue? I charge daily with a J1772 plug with zero issues.

Soft reset tried, hard reset tried, turning off gear guard and letting truck go to sleep for 15 minutes as tried as well with no luck.

I will say Rivian has been pretty good with accommodating anything I needed but wow, I may need to rethink my ownership until RAN is available in my area if this is going to be an issue.
I too just made first trip…and had all the same issues you describe! It isn’t good! We did make it home (8 miles left) after charging about 5-10 times at several locations! What a bunch of crap this CCS network is!!! (after reading several treads on this topic…it sounds like its most likely the truck thats the issue!) Let’s hope Rivian fixes this ASAP!

I just had a similar issue with my local EA charger station.
Four charger ( two 150 kwh, two 350kwh).
One 350 kwh said out of order. One 150 kwh stall had the screen flickering every other second ( someone did end up plugging into it and i suspect it was working).
I tried the 350 kwh stall, but it would freeze at the credit card payment screen. I got on the phone with EA customer service, she rebooted it, after about 15 minutes, it never worked, she said she would write a ticket for it.
I downloaded the EA app and signed up for the $4 monthly subscription to see if it would work that way, I plugged into the 150 kwh stall, it worked!
A person with a Ford Mach E charged on the 350 kwh stall that didn't work for me, but I don't know how fast it was charging for him. When it became available, I switched from the 150 stall to the 350 stall, it did accept my payment with my phone NFC and EA membership, however, it was charging at a snails pace. I switched back to the 150 stall.
Another person showed up and started charging on the 350 stall, same throttle problems on his vehicle. I told him I was having problems with that 350 stall, I told him to switch to mine.
I really hope EA starts to seriously address these issues to become more reliable.
I had some initial problems using EA chargers with my CC. Now I run all my charging sessions through the EA App. It won’t fix a broken charger, but it works really well with functioning chargers.
