Following. I’ve had intermittent charging issues and degraded or unavailable DC fast charging warnings.

Just found this thread.

Same issue. For reference I also have a polestar2. I’m used to a 99% success rate on EA. With the Rivian I’ve had 2/8 attempts work on the same chargers as the p2.

There has to be something wrong here.
I'm curious if it's more prevalent in certain VIN blocks or manufacture dates? Anyone with issues care to share VIN numbers (but that would be too simple).

I'm traveling 700mi this weekend, not taking the R1T for this exact reason. The Model S has 100% success, except once in 5 yrs., and so taking her.

Mine VIN is like 7500? And yeah our model x never had a single issue fast charging. Plenty of other Tesla things to nitpick with but nothing this major. Definitely regret taking the R1T on our road trip and need an solid explanation and Fix to reestablish confidence before trying again.

For those worried about CCS charging, I’ll offer a slightly different data point. I just completed a 2000 mile round trip from mid-MI to Cape Code, MA In the R1T. The majority of charging was done using Electrify America chargers.

The majority of EA stations had one or more dispensers completely down (dead screen or showing a do not use warning) or the dispenser wouldn’t connect and provide electrons to the truck. However, none of the stations were completely down.

Several of the dispensers would start out strong and after a minute or so go into “limited by station” and only give about A 40kw rate. In most cases, disconnecting and reconnecting would resolve the issue although a couple of times I did switch dispensers and then I’d get a normal charging rate.

A couple of times where the dispenser wouldn’t connect to the truck, I’d simply use the other cable on the dispenser and it would connect properly. I’m thinking some of the connectors may be getting worn on the EA cable ends.

The best charging experience was in DuBois, PA. Looked to be a new station. Connected first try and had a great charging experience (high rate of charge).

The worst charging experience was at the Blue Heron Service Plaza (I-80) in OH. Four dispensers, one was down. When I arrived, two dispensers were in use so I hooked up to the third one. Initially started charging at a normal rate but it quickly throttled down to 40kw. Tried restarting three times and could never get above 40kw. Due to volume of cars needing to charge, I wasn’t immediately able to switch dispensers. Finally was able to move over one dispenser and then was able to charge at nearly 200kw.

I didn’t have any range anxiety on the trip as the battery guess-o-meter was spot on for mileage. The anxiety came from wondering if i was going to be able to actually charge and do so in a timely manner. Plugshare helps with that as you can check crowd-sourced information on specific stations.

I also took it upon myself to notify EA anytime I found a malfunctioning station. They have a Twitter account and seem to be responsive (1-2 days). Would I have any hesitancy in doing another road trip, nope. Just be prepared for some minor delays and potential frustrations. I did meet some wonderful people while charging and have seen some awesome new EVs out there (Polestar, MachE, Lightening, Porsche, and a couple of Rivians).

Under 7000.

Same, took R1T on a Texas road trip and won't do it again until reports of improvement. Have been Tesla since 2018 and do several multi-state trips a year without a single charging issue except having to share A/B chargers (never had to wait), slow below freezing fast charging (pre octovalve), and road construction (blocked highway exit) where I've skipped a charger to use the next one instead.

It’s interesting how variable things are. I made a trip from upstate NY to Chicago while pulling a trailer on the outbound leg and had good charging experiences for the entire route (almost entirely EA), including the Blue Heron Service Plaza. My vin number is in the 2xxx range and while my initial charging experience was good, it has since degraded markedly with frequent warnings about DC fast charging being degraded.

Just saw this posted on the Ford Mach-e forum. A user report of EA saying they has a "Nationwide system failure"

Wish that was the issue for me. Tried without the app and just a credit card. Rivian even got EA to start a free charging session all to no avail. I definitely tried a charge point the same day and a Greenpoint/she'll the following day each with the same issue. Not saying definitively it's the truck but sure seems logical to me.

I tried both EA and EVGO, 8 different chargers and none worked. Three different locations.

I also have a Polestar 2, I understand EA flakiness. This is not it. There is something wrong with a few of the trucks on this forum, mine included.

Rivian said they would call me if they can see the truck earlier, but otherwise I’m supposed to have a 7/29 appointment.

Spoke to the Cleveland SC yesterday and they claimed to have found the issue. The girl I spoke to didn't seem to know much about it but said it was an MCM, "something control module" is all she knew and that it controlled the DC fast charging. They were waiting on the module and expected delivery of it today followed by a few hours of programming and anticipated me being able to pick it up over the weekend or having it back early next week. Today came and went with no update and the truck was plugged in all day to which I can only assume, means the part didn't come or they did no work on it. I asked if this is a guaranteed fix or a best guess and she didn't know. Will hopefully have an update early next week.

I had some initial problems using EA chargers with my CC. Now I run all my charging sessions through the EA App. It won’t fix a broken charger, but it works really well with functioning chargers.
Yup…95% success rate using app…pull up, plug in, click your charger, swipe right…charging. The card readers are frustrating.

Well it's Tuesday and I am still waiting on a call from the service department. My wife dropped it off Friday and they told her it might be a while because it might be a hardware and software issue?? Luckily we have a loaner --cocaine white with all terrains-- so if we still have it this weekend maybe I'll try and find some mud to churn through.
