1) What is the latest belief in how max pack will be implemented? Did the Munro teardowns reveal space in the frame where extra cells could be placed?

2) The order spreadsheets shows about 15% orders with max pack. But this includes R1S. Anyone making an estimate of current max pack backorder?

3) How many orders does Rivian currently have? Any guess on the percent that actually closed?

I'm not particularly concerned about when I will get my order. I'm more just generally interested in Rivian metrics.

1) the extra modules will go in the extra space in the frame that's always been there. It's been this way since 2018 at least.

2)Rivian states 20% of preorders are max pack and seemingly hasn't deviated from that.

3)the last number published was "over 90,000". There will presumably be an updated figure in the pending quarterly report. They've built somewhere over 12,000 vehicles so presumably that's approximately what the number of completed orders is.

Ditch the max pack, its vaporware. I got a VIN assigned two weeks after dumping it from my build.

Max pack loses 1 cuft of storage space, which is about the size of the rear storage area under the seat. It would also explain why they chose to use welded/integrated structure there. There is room for two modules behind the rear of the pack and one more spot in the space under the seat.

Take it for what it is worth... Neighbor works for Rivian in long range systems testing. He originally had an R1S Max Pack on order until he found out they ditched the Max Pack for the SUV. He then changed his order to an R1T with Max Pack. He feels he needs the extra range for the types of trips he takes. He could have an R1T in a week if he switched to a long range, but he said he has seen the Max Pack R1T being tested and is holding out for a Max Pack.

Take this with a grain of salt, but CS has sworn on multiple occasions to me that the storage spaces under seat, gear tunnel, spare storage, etc are NOT compromised by the additional cells. I know it goes against the data sheet they published ages ago when they revealed the vehicles initially, but at this point, it's all I have to go by that is less than 4 year old info.

The "135kWh" large pack is 9 modules, 15 kWh per module. 180 kWh requires 12 modules of that size.

They might be able to juuuust eek out 400 miles on an 11 module pack if they keep the buffer size the same physical capacity instead of percentage.

That's honestly how I figured they were intending to achieve the 400 while retaining the storage spaces when CS gave me that answer.

If they do have to sacrifice underseat storage to make it work, is what it is. Maybe they'll add a glove compartment to make up for it ;)

I won't be buying an R1 without the max pack. And as I wrote, I'm in no rush.
I've been firmly entrenched in 180kWh pack camp since I heard about the truck, let alone placed the order.

Like one of the other comments said, I'll ditch my Rivian reservation before I ditch my config. If I can't get my desired config in the next 1-2 years, I'll order another ICE truck to get me through the next decade. Hopefully by then Rivian will offer better configurations, or someone else will.

TL;DR. Can't believe people are paying $90k for a truck and not putting their foot down on demanding exact specifications, LOL. ??

I'm still thinking it would be very cool to have the R1S with a maxpack. I'd definitely consider that option and likely get an R1S. But nothing wrong with the R1T other than it does not seat as many people.

I paid 75 and its worth over 100k used. Buy the large pack, if you hate it, sell it for significantly more then you paid and order max. Win/Win.

I get why people say/do this. I'm the type that only buys one vehicle every 10 years. And spend a couple years researching before pulling the trigger. So I don't mind the wait, but want what I want. Already planning on cutting out the back seat so I can put a toolbox back there (to make up for the short bed)... Yeah, probably not the typical Rivian customer, LOL. ??

I agree. My original order was a two row R1S max pack. Buy I'm fine with the R1T, and like the longer wheel base. The market for a 400 mile three row is probably large, but Rivian will still sell out of the S for a few years.

I don't think Ford will offer longer range until they come out with "from the ground up" large EVs. The current frame rails of the F150 restrict pack size. Undoubtedly a max pack Lightning would be popular.
