Thanks for the quick reply. i plan on keeping the cross bars on too. i bought a second set just in case i need them for something else. Which Ikamper is that? i have the 2.0mini, and i think it's light enough to use in this setup since it holds up to 200lbs.

I have a Shelter-Logic "Garage in a Box" and I am trying to figure out if there is a way that I can, somewhat easily, take the RTT off the truck and store it when I am not using it. That way it doesn't weather wear and the truck is more useable.

So, being that the "garage" is merely a few steel frames with a thick PVC tarp on them, I don't think I can reinforce it enough to deploy an actual ceiling hoist system, like I have seen a few people on here use (which I am extremely jealous of!).

My out-of-the-box idea is to see if I could use one of these: https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200640934_200640934

This particular engine hoist specs that it can lift as high as 82", which "should" be enough if I put the truck in the lowest setting. I measured in All Purpose just now, and to the top of the iKamper Mini 3.0 is roughly 72"

What do you guys think?
I think your engine hoist will work - need to be careful to not get into the body paint with the hoist.

@bdavis171 do you keep the tent up there all the time when it is not in use? I've wondered how comfortable I would be having 200lbs hanging from the ceiling for weeks or months at at time.

I am planning on it. It shouldn't be an issue at only 125lbs

I guess you're right. that's really not a lot. I have 4 bikes on one of those racks with hooks along the wall. they weigh more than that, though the force angle is a bit different.

Something to consider with the engine hoist is unless you lock it out mechanically, it will likely drop down over time.

I would only be using it to lift the tent off and to transport it to a storage rack in the shed. So it wouldn't be used as a "storage solution" per se.

Ok, so I bit the bullet and went to harbor freight.

I bought these parts:

2 ton crane

Load leveler

Tie downs

Hitch extender

Hook

Quick Links

I added the hitch extender to the end of the boom, to get a bit more length.

I drilled a 1/2" hole at the front end of the extender to put a bolt in for the quick link for the hook. This is the shortest possible way to have a hook, way shorter than the hook and chain that came with the crane.

Then I added the load leveler and attached the crossbars to that with some tie downs.

Worked like a charm! I forgot to take a pic with the tent dangling from the crane, but you get the idea.

31.5" from the ceiling to the bottom of the cross bars. Sorry for the slow response!

i am planning to install one this week - Universal XL HD . Instead of strapping to the tent , did you try attaching to the cross bars and lift ? looking at options to avoid scrathes to the tent body .Appreciate any inputs

I have an RTT hoist with an iKamper and lift via the rivian crossbars:
