Basically added protection against boulders on off road trails. Typically steel and very heavy to protect body panels and frame damage while offroading. Some double as steps, but most are angled to help the vehicle not get hung up on rocks.

Have to ask what rock sliders are.

They are a must have off road for me, but I like having them even in town. The ones designed like the Weistec sliders don’t stick out too far, but just far enough to stop shopping carts, car doors, etc and act as a step to reach the top.

Mine even saved my bacon at a construction site once. Earlier in the day I was there and the gravel entry was in one place. I left for most of the day but wanted to stop by on my way home to check on progress. Apparently during the day they had hit a gas line while excavating and relocated the entry but in the dark I just turned where I normally did and by the time my headlights shined across the old drive it was too late to see that it was now a 12-18” drop off from the street. The sliders took the impact and luckily my Tacoma is lifted enough the rear bumper did not hit as I went further in. The sliders barely even showed a scrape from that and saved me from extensive damage to the truck. Lesson learned!

Need sliders. Could care less about steps. I say that as a person of privileged height. Kneel mode was more than enough to get me in and out comfortably, so yea, just need the sliders. If anyone finds out these are capable rock sliders, let us all know please!

I have never used my running boards on my X5. All they do is dirty my pant legs.

BMW running boards are for looks, I have them on mine and they slightly slope downwards. I have young kids and they tend to use them.

My telluride has functional running boards that my kids use daily.

Still can't believe Rivian didn't think about running boards.

Maybe they will eventually. But I do think things like this are better served with better quality and more options in the aftermarket.

I would hope, then, that the boards/sliders would have a facility for the jack to be attached directly.

The caption says "running boards" but they look like sliders. I am in the market for sliders but I'm goring to wait until I know how they are attached. Ideally I'd like them to not be branded, but most slider companies love to laser cut their logos in to them.
