I'm in group 2 and there was a recent price increase on the quad motor went up from 6K to 8K but my configuration still shows 6K so i'm hoping mine is locked in as well.
Same boat with a March pre-order. My configuration shows 6k for the quad and 6k for the large pack. Other items increased in cost as well before may 2022.

They actually removed key features including the heated steering wheel, heated mirrors, and the onboard scales. They also removed some sort of security feature, but I’m not sure what that is. They cut these features, without communicating anything to reservation holders, but still raised prices. There hasn’t been any “locked pricing” with Ford.

If Rivian’s competitors are doing this, and getting away with it (remains to be seen, but Ford can’t make Lightnings fast enough right now) then I think it’s definitely possible Rivian will eventually follow suit.

But as a protected, pre-March reservation holder, they are building brand loyalty with me, even before I receive delivery.
I want a Platinum but was just offered a LAriat (2023) by my local dealer as someone ahead of me in line backed-out. The build sheet shows the heated steering wheel being deleted and when I inquired about who in their right might up here in the great white north would do that I was told that Ford did it to all builds due to a chip shortage. It also showed -$140 for that option on the price sheet.

Ford's solution here is not necessarily to reduce cost but rather to push trucks out the door without features where it is having supply chain issues.

Tough to believe that line. It seems more likely this move is a means to silently raise prices.

So, if you pay $140 more for the option they suddenly have a chip for your heated wheel? ?

Hey R.J, I'm still here with an order from Nov. 28, 2018 and a 2024 delivery estimate because I do not live a "correct" part of the country. Am I to pay more for my R1T than folks who ordered three years after me????? That goes beyond unfair.

Brian
I'm guessing you have a Max on order? Were you offered access to the R1T?

I am getting worried that my old LE R1s may just get thrown completely to the back to sendoff higher margin vehicles . . . . So much for their early preorder holders.
No way they would try raising prices on pre march orders. After trying it and then taking it back the PR hit from trying again would be terrible. On post-march orders, yea, they will raise the price at least once a year - forever.

Since they can't raise prices on older orders, they will just continue to remove features. At some point we might prefer that they just raised the price. Like when they realize they can save nearly 1K by switching to chinese no-name tires.
I agree that Rivian is highly unlikely to change its policy wrt the pre-March reservation pricing. IMO, it's more likely that the R1T Max will be offered only in dual-motor configuration. It doesn't seem to make sense to throw engineering resources at a quad max, given that orders for it are only about 1/5 of Rivian's initial reservations backlog (about 10,000 vehicles, which would represent less than 9% of the new 114,000 order figure.) If the dual-motor only thing does happen, I suspect that pre-March Max reservations will be void since there was no pricing for a dual-motor at that time. I'd also expect that in that case, Rivian will allow you to change to the R1T or R1S LR at the pre-March pricing.

If the Tony C remarks during a recent web interview are to be believed, more information on deliveries is going to be "coming in weeks."

Not to mention the ADM that the dealers will add to the price once they have it on their lot. Pre-order or not, it's very rare to get a Lightning at MSRP.

I wonder if a "price increase" could be in the form of the subscription for additional features enabled by software? I asked a SC rep recently if they had any info on the subscription - not yet.

Ditto. I recently purchased a new Bronco and Lightning from my local dealer. Both were sold to me at MSRP.

My nearby dealers are small and not marking up Lightnings. I would never deal with Kunes for any vehicle based on stories I've heard. I suppose Kunes feels it can charge ADM as it seems to have inventory while other dealers are handling orders. I wonder if these are mannequins. One of the Madison dealers has an ADM but again it is a dealer I would never purchase from anyway.

Then again... at least Ford customers willing to pay for an adm can get a truck... I'm still waiting on s00n.

I would gladly pay the current price if it meant I got my R1S configured the way I want.
I am not sure if I would at this point. A lot of promises made and not kept. The vehicles are a great value proposition at 76,000. 93,000 probably fair value but I don't know if it is a good value. I know people should expect early adopter, etc., but if other 93,000 vehicles don't come with any of these hiccups, then that is relevant. Of course the whole reason I have been waiting is because I want electric and I want a three row suv so that cuts against everything else I just said.

I don’t see how Rivian can afford to keep the 2019 $71,500 base price for 2023. Another Friday e-mail from Tony?

They’re not selling at that price. The current starting price for the vehicles in production now (quad motor R1T) is 87,000.

They saw what happened when they increased the price for all orders last time.

good points. I guess my willingness to paying the current price is in light of what else is out there... which will be changing quickly.

I predict Rivian will have a price increase for 2023 R1 vehicles. I predict current reservations will be impacted and a Tony will be sending out an e-mail soon.

Your thoughts? Did they learn a price increase lesson earlier in the year when they had tons of cancellations?

Bottom line? Rivian needs to increase theirs.
Well, it depends upon the increase, We have a reservation, but it all feels mythical --like I am waiting on a unicorn...
