The aluminum top plate looks beautiful, but the exposed 3D printed surface in the recess looks pretty bad.Trying to do that to the best of my ability. This will be flush with the wood, and won't look like an insert like our Classic Premium plate. I feel this is as close to OEM I have gotten. Here's a look at an early iteration (THIS IS NOT THE FINAL DESIGN).

No aluminum there. That's all 3d printed. Also this is not a finalized design. The final product will be flush with the wood. The aluminum top plate looks beautiful, but the exposed 3D printed surface in the recess looks pretty bad.
If you got rid of the bevel It would be a lot easier to cover that portion with a plate as well.
I was suggesting that you do put aluminum down in the recess for the final design. If you get rid of the bevel, that should be doable. No aluminum there. That's all 3d printed. Also this is not a finalized design. The final product will be flush with the wood.
The bevel is needed for space requirements in the center console. There are several things that get in the way of going straight down.I was suggesting that you do put aluminum down in the recess for the final design. If you get rid of the bevel, that should be doable.
Aluminum is not good material for the plate. Surface would be scratchy, and the phone would slide around.I was suggesting that you do put aluminum down in the recess for the final design. If you get rid of the bevel, that should be doable.
Seems like forming aluminum to fit the recess would be more expensive than coming up with a rubber mat solution.I was suggesting that you do put aluminum down in the recess for the final design. If you get rid of the bevel, that should be doable.
Powder coating is incredibly long lasting. It's why its often utilized as a coating for frames. Take a look at some classic cars. They can take a beating and keep looking great. The coating will also make the entire piece look like it belongs in the vehicle.Seems like forming aluminum to fit the recess would be more expensive than coming up with a rubber mat solution.
I would not hesitate to purchase this if the surface is done right. I keep my phone in a case but I think over time the aluminum coating would start to wear unless it's pretty hard, which probably would be bad for the naked phone people.
