Last night I noticed for the first time that even while my truck is parked, locked, and charging, my app now shows it as 'In Use', which doesn't allow me to modify any of the climate settings, change charging percentages, view my charging session etc.

I've drove the truck around and confirmed it happens 100% of the time now no matter what my behavior is. Whether in or out of the truck, locked or unlocked, charging or not charging.

The only thing I haven't done yet is any resets on the truck.

Anyone else see anything like this previously? As far as I know it didn't start until yesterday but has been persistent since then. My app was not updated immediately prior and my truck does not have the most recent software being released currently, I'm still on 47.0.

I'm intending to file a ticket with Rivian but wanted to check in here first and see if anyone else has seen this behavior and/or has a solution.

No belts are buckled. Could be an issue with the sensor, that was my thought as well, but you'd think the truck would know it's locked, all the screens are off, etc, and that does not equate to 'in use'. Maybe that's wrong though ?

EDIT: I guess if it thinks a butt is in the seat it doesn't care if the rest of the truck is basically powered down. That does seem potentially likely tho, since I've noticed I'm not getting as much charge as I usually do while it's in this state, since it keeps using power for things when it shouldn't be, I think.

If it's not one of the obvious problems, Rivian is probably just going to ask you to do a reset of the truck and see if it goes away. It frustrates me that they don't (or can't?) dig into these issues remotely before offering that. There is something causing it.

I'll probably try a soft reset myself before I reach out to Rivian so I can at least tell them I've done that before they tell me to.

I've been having the same problem since last week. My phone-as-key has also been incredibly janky and the car is not automatically locking anymore. It all seems related. I was planning to wait until the software update to see if this resolved.

Sorry, launched before ready. I meant to say the reboots fixed everything. Phone working pretty well.

Is your truck subject to the issue with the passenger seat occupancy sensor?

Mine has not had that issue, no.

I didn't end up doing a reset but now everything seems to be fine. I drove it a few more times and the issue has gone away, charging screen shows fine on my app, no longer showing in use when it is not in use. Not sure if it was a software bug or that's an indication that a sensor is intermittently failing. For now I'll sit tight but if it pops up again I'll try a reset as others in this thread discussed, and contact Rivian if that doesn't resolve it.

Still don't have the current update, so perhaps that may also stealth-fix some minor bug somewhere leading to this.

I had a similar issue with the front passenger window always showing as open (I only know which window because the unofficial HomeAssistant integration shows each window individually).

The most annoying thing is they wanted me to uninstall and reinstall the app (which is dumb—this data is coming directly from their servers, the app isn't caching it). I performed a full reboot, and interestingly it didn't fix it immediately. I then fully opened the window and used the app to close it, and that finally cleared it.

I never touched the app, since it (quite obviously) had nothing to do with the app.

I'm 50/50 on the "just reboot it" side of these things. On one hand, I agree with @Dark-Fx that they really should be trying to dig into these issues more, since there's possibly a single root cause that they can fix.

On the other hand, as the lead front-end developer & product manager for a SaaS product, I understand that resources are always limited, and sometimes this sort of problem is just really hard to reproduce. If a reboot fixes it, then at least a different, higher-priority task can be worked on until time is available to dig into these kinds of problems.

Rivian would benefit from better trained customer support. I spent over a week trying to get my account to let me log back in after it was locked out. I talked to 7 different people. In the end, I don't think any of them actually did anything, it's possible the lockout just finally timed out, but not one of those people even knew what was going on. I only knew because of other folks who had gotten locked out.

(I'm also still trying to get the stupid wristband, even though it's supposedly been shipped twice [never made it to UPS's hands] and several CS folks are "working on it". I was supposed to get it last September.)

New software does not fix the problem. My phone will do most things but it will not all it to go. Restarting the phone fixes it until you go away for awhile then will not allow it to go. I also had the vehicle in use early one morning while parked in the garage and plugged in to charger. I have notified them and tried many reboots soft and hard also on phone I'm using samsung s20 fe. My wife's old s10 is still working. Started a week or 2 ago I always have the key for in my pocket so I didn't really have a problem except I noticed it wasn't locking and unlocking automatically.
