went on a trip and took my phone with me. Temps were likely steady with truck in the garage while I was gone. Did not check truck. Of course it downloaded the revised update, but I didn’t apply it

12 hours short of a week and went from 70->62%
Didn’t do the meter reset for numbers.

Thinking about it more, I think it would be difficult to achieve this for three reasons:
1. You'd have to time it so that you started charging both batteries at the same time and same voltage
2. You'd have to charge when the vehicle is not already charging the 12v's, i.e. after a 12V "charge session" (that means the vehicle would need to be locked and not know you're there)
3. You'd need to make absolutely sure the voltage is between 12.5v and 13v at all times

If you didn't satisfy these three, the software might go into a critical error or something. I wouldn't want to be responsible for causing you to brick your truck. Even if you did everything correctly, the software might still see something odd about it...

Ok, I feel better lol..
The charger I have is made for dual battery systems as found in boats, etc.. Charging them in sync wouldn't be an issue with this charger.

Day 3 of my "Shipping Mode" test without driving the R1T, opening the app, PAAK never set up, Gear Guard off, didn't open any doors or go in to the truck except for 1X each day at 9:30AM to check for range estimate.

4/4 9:30AM - 137mi range
4/6 9:30AM 135mi range
4/7 9:30AM 136mi range

I have to conclude the Shipping mode test at this point because in order to apply the "chop-chop charge port door" prevention update it can't be in Shipping mode and I needed to charge since I will be using the truck for a 90mi trip Saturday.

All in all... at this point I can live with 1mi/day range loss if that requires the truck being put in Shipping mode.
Admittedly, I'm an outlier case as I work from home and only use the Rivian once per week or less. My truck was delivered on Jan 20th with 60miles on it (distance from Brooklyn SC to my house) and as of today it's only got 283 total miles on it. For people who drive every day, I don't see using Shipping mode because it's kind of cumbersome to enable, but for the few like me who don't use their Rivian often- Shipping mode (after the last update) might be a new viable option to seriously curtail Vampire drain.

I appreciate all the work going into this thread, folks. Going on TDY for 45 days, and figuring out how I'm going to handle leaving the truck has been a low-level stressor. My wife can handle it, but it was just one more thing to worry about. At least I feel informed now.

In fact I can park my ev6 for 2 weeks at the airport and maybe lose 1% at most.
Same, when I had my EV6 it essentially lost nothing. Even when parked for over a week outside (but covered) in cold temps at the airport.

Great stuff, Rob! I totally agree that 1 mile per day is fine. Thanks for doing the test!

...If your findings suggest a good portion of the 800wH/day loss is due to 12V battery recharging, it would be pretty simple to set up a 12V trickle charger on the two 12V batts and see if keeping them charged via an external source (which draws way less then 800wH/day) can get Vampire drain (at least in Shipping mode) down to almost nothing/day.
It's an interesting experiment, but why do you think the HV battery is inefficiently charging the 12v?

Best to leave it plugged in to 110V outlet.

@rivian_germany mentioned that he has estimated having the traction batteries charge the two 12V batts every day is accounting for 800wH/day energy drain from the pack. That is a lot of energy for charging two small 12V batteries.

It is, but the idea this could be turned around by using 12v battery chargers seems quite foolhardy, unless you believe that the Rivian hardware has terrible efficiency when charging the 12v.

Unfortunately we don't know what else/other systems Rivian is turning on when charging the batts, so it's possible large amounts of the energy expended is not actually going directly in to the 12V batts. Testing will provide the missing information.

Yes on my truck it's a little bit more than that, I calculated mine to be about a 15amp drain when sitting there doing nothing. Thats a metric sh!t-ton. If you're unfamiliar with how much that is its the equivalent of you turning the key on (non-EV vehicle)with all the exterior lights on as well and leaving it on in any late model vehicle. The battery would be dead in less than 5 hours at that rate depending on battery spec of course.

I tried the suggested shipping mode test. I saw 2% a day decline, I didn't touch the vehicle for two days and lost 4% total.

4/11 7:39am 57%, 187 miles
4/13 7:39am 53%, 178 miles

Proximity stuff, gear guard are off. Shipping mode is on. I still got an alert that the latest update was available for install. I thought shipping mode would shut downloading off. It didn't but you can't install while in shipping mode
