In what world are these types of paint issues acceptable on new R1S?

Also, if this is totally normal you’re going to need to explain to me why my previous two R1Ts had nothing remotely like this.
just curious, this is your third Rivian? what happened to the Ts?

The first T Rivian bought back due to quality issues that the Memphis service center made worse. They even damaged some of the body. So I got a second one. When the S was selected for fulfillment I figured I’d get a trade quote just to see what they’d give me for the T, expecting them to lowball it, but they actually gave me a solid offer, so I took it.

I do think a replacement is a perfectly acceptable request given the extent of the issues, however Rivian doesn’t really see it that way I guess (at least not yet).

I could in theory return it under the 7-day policy (they said they would honor it since I reported these issues within 7 days), however the issue is that program doesn’t allow for ordering a replacement. You only get a refund, and you have to essentially place a new order at the new pricing and wait in line. Couple this with losing the tax credit and the fact I traded my R1T already for this S it’s just not a feasible route forward.

I’m really hoping once they see everything in person and get estimates for repairing everything they’ll realize it’s just not worth it, buy this one back to use as a loaner/service vehicle, and get me priority on a replacement.

That vehicle is a mess! I think when they get the estimate they will offer you a replacement. It's going to cost thousands to fix all those issues to a "as new" level of perfection.

Would love to see the history of this particular vehicle, it looks like it's been through the ringer.

I wonder if you could get a replacement under your state's lemon law if they can't fix it to your satisfaction? Never a fan of litigation if avoidable, but if they won't willingly replace and can't fix to reasonable standard...

Everything is on the table from my perspective. Seems like even at the threat of lemon law Rivian would likely buy back directly.

Sorry to see you have to go through all this. Really detracts from your ability to enjoy the car. I have a friend that owns a body shop and I plan to take him with me when I pick my R1S up (one day). Like most here, I am very excited to get my hands on my R1S but if it looks like this I will just walk away. That might sound drastic to some. Best of luck mate.

Hey Rob, how you liking your truck?
Loving it!! Thanks for asking.

I hate to jinx myself, but zero defects from the factory.

I only drive it about 1X per week as I work from home and it's usually blocked in by at least one other car in the driveway... but I leave it in "Shipping Mode" in between uses now so Vampire drain is down to about 1mi loss per day which is acceptable for me. Looking forward to towing the boat with it this summer ?

All my factory issues were resolved on my first visit to the service center :)
It's been a great ownership experience so far. Wish I had my manual cover and carplay- then it would be perfect.

Could have used the manual tonneau Sat.... I had to drive family to JFK. Put 5 suitcases in the bed, I had to strap them down.. wold have much easier to just toss em in the bed (the suitcases, not the family :giggle:) and deploy the tonneau.

I had the SXM app running on my phone to the truck via BT..... sounded decent enough.

Was happy with the efficiency- averaged 2.34mi/kWh for the 120mi round trip. Four people, plus four 45+ lb suitcases plus three carry on pieces.

Text to speech would have been nice because they were giving me updates as they made it through TSA, their Gate, etc.. as I was driving home.

SXM- Carplay would fix. Text to speech- Carplay would fix. lol.

I use my gear guard cable a hell of a lot more than I would if I had my tonneau cover, but hey I'm glad I have the gear guard cable.

I golf and right now unless I'm going straight from home to the course I have to put one bag in the gear tunnel and one in the frunk. Still glad I have all that space but would sure be easy to just throw it in the bed with a cover over it.

I went shooting two weekends ago and was able to fit 5 long guns/ammo/etc in the tunnel and frunk but again would have been nice to just throw it all in the bed....
