Are you changing your charging limit after the latest software update? I have been charging to 70% most sessions, but I'm thinking I would change it to 80%. Is there any impact to long-term battery life by regularly charging to 80%?

70% has worked well for my daily needs, so I see no need to change that.

I didn't understand why people were so insistent on having a slider, anyway.... If you need more for a trip, use 85%. Does being able to say 80% or 82% really save your battery over 85%? I don't think so.

ya the difference between 80 and 85 is 15 miles… I can see charging to 50 or 60 I guess? But 70% is good for daily use and and a bit extra in case something comes up. So ya, I don’t see myself using it until longer trips to maybe to 98% to feel like I’m being a good boy and not hurting my battery lol.

I plan on charging to 95% the night before a trip and finishing the last 5% after waking up in the AM. 15% can take a solid 3 hours so I'd have to either get up early or leave the truck unnecessarily at 100% for hours.

The slider is the wrong solution, imo. A better solution would be if Rivian implemented a "finish charging before XYZ" feature. Then we could set the time we plan to begin our journey and the truck could charge up to 70% or 80% right away, but then delay finishing the charge until it the last moment.

Sure but it's *A* solution. I'll probably knock my daily charging down to 80% to contend with less regen limitation on a regular basis.

Yeah, it's better than nothing. I understand why you'll use it that way.

I'm just pointing out that there is a better solution for that use case and Rivian should implement it. And if they did implement it, I don't see a need/benefit for the slider, anymore.

If you don't understand why people would need it, then it isnt for you :).

I'm guessing this works well for folks in specific charging situations- people who don't have chargers at home. If I had to guess. Or ridiculously long commute? Anyways, the slider isn't for me either lol.

I might knock mine down occasionally just to run the battery down. I heard you want to run down to 10% on occasion just to keep the battery from getting a memory. Right now I charge to 70 and plug back in daily which gets me to around 45% when I plug in. I don't go super far on a daily basis.

I'll likely never adjust mine from 70%. If I have a day where I'll be doing more driving, then yeah maybe bump it to 90% instead of 85% since I can with a slider, but it really makes no difference to me. I'm glad they're implementing it so people have more control, but after living with the three pre-sets (and having come from a Tesla), I really don't see any need for anything else.

I'm probably dropping down to 60% to try to protect the battery. Summer desert heat is nigh in Phoenix and I have a short commute.

I bought my first EV in 2011. I'm used to planning my charging when I need more range. I'm pretty sure I can get the range I need mostly from home charging (240V @ 48 amps). I also have a decent number of L3 charging options in the area if I need them.

I travel regularly, too, and will probably drop to 50% when I'm out of town - again all in the interest of doing whatever I can to minimize battery degradation in the desert heat.

Same for me. 70% most of the time, 90-95% the night before, then the last bit just before heading out. I never fast charge above about 85% anyway so that’s not a huge change.

70% is fine for the majority of my daily driving, but I kicked it up to 75% for now. My issue is I still only have a 30A circuit in the garage, so charging at 24A I can only really recover about 100 miles of range overnight. Need to get that circuit upgraded, but in the meantime I'll hold slightly more charge in case I need to go higher for a trip. Then again, I could always just hit DCFC.
