I’m beyond frustrated with the Dallas service center. I’ve scheduled service twice to fix excessive AC fan noise. Both times, the service center has told me the noise is normal. They finally gave me a loaner R1S so I could compare the two vehicles to prove the noise is normal. The two vehicles sound nothing alike. Please listen to the attached videos and let me know if you think these are the same. I’m calling Rivian corporate to see if anyone will acknowledge that my vehicle has a problem. The Dallas service manager is totally dismissive and refuses to acknowledge that anything is wrong with my vehicle.

I think that's the same noise mine makes. For me it's rare. It did it in the parking lot at Hawes when we took delivery. They said it was a compressor noise. I think it has done it once since last week for maybe 30 seconds. It is very loud but for me has not been an issue so far. Not sure if it will get worse as it gets hotter.

The noise is constant for me. It gets way loader when the weather hits 90+ in Dallas.

The first sounds like electrical fan noise, possibly resonating through the dashboard, ductwork, etc.. The second sounds like airflow. So yeah, there is a noticeable difference.

What about the actual air flow? Is it the same or different? I saw that you had the fan at the same speed on both.

I didn't compare the actual airflow as both felt comfortable. The main issue is the noise. I've driven in 3 R1S's now and only mine has the noise issue.

Also I park under a car port so it is not that hot when I get in. I have the temp set at 68 so not sure if having it set to 62 degrees is relevant.

I agree it is very loud. Curious to see if yours gets fixed.

Definitely louder in yours, but doesn't sound like a fan issue (to me). It sounds like the AC compressor. There were some other variables between the two (62 in yours, 65 in the loaner, charging, drive cycle, outside temperature, etc...) that affect how hard the compressor has to work that will affect how loud it is.

I was curious as to the noise problem in relationship to air flow. Low air flow would help support your argument that there is a defective component.

There have also been owners that have had some wiring harnesses touching the compressor that have caused noise issues. I thought there was a customer satisfaction campaign for that...

Is the loaner a newer VIN? I can tell a difference in the videos but overall the R1T AC is the loudest I've think I've heard in a car built in the last handful of years.

For what it's worth, I recently had to take my R1T into the service center for some other issues, and I received a loaner. Neither mine, nor the loaner, were making that excessive fan noise at first. While I had the loaner, the latest update came out, so I ran the update and it started making that same fan noise. Then, when I got my R1T back, it was awaiting the same update, but I didn't run it for a day or two. As soon as I ran the update, it started making that same noise, so I wonder if it's more of a result of the update. I am assuming yours has been updated and maybe the loaner hasn't?

And my experience with the Dallas Service Center has actually be great. Justin and the crew have always been really helpful and pleasant. Though not every issue gets fixed on the first try, I had to take my R1T in twice for a noisy triangle window... but from what I've read here and on Reddit, a lot of issues can take a couple of tries to resolve. I accept it as a learning process and continue to enjoy the truck and the company for what they are.

I just reproduced it by turning the temp to LOW(all the way down) and took off the plastic cover above the tub. The compressor is right on top. I did not see anything rubbing it, but did not look underneath it. Yikes that thing is attached to high voltage! Looks like it just makes noise. The faster it spins, the more noise it makes. It's isolated with rubber bushings, but you can still feel other stuff vibrating a little outside of that.

I didn't check the VIN to see if my loaner was a newer build. I contacted Rivian corporate and sent my videos in for review. Hoping they take this seriously and acknowledge my noise is unacceptable. I'll post additional videos when the temperature rises. The noise gets much worse when the temp hits 90+

Is it at the highest speed only? I agreed that the dallas service center is not good. Brought my r1s in a few months ago for several issues and didn't fix it correctly (wind noise and rattle sub woofer)

Mine is a bit louder than that and it rattles the dash too. I have to press it down so it doesnt vibrate so much
