Started noticing some fur on the hood of my car every morning. My security cameras revealed a neighborhood stray cat taking a liking to my hood.

I love cats. I don’t love them on the hood of my truck.

Anyone have ideas on how to deter this - without harming the cat, of course.

My cat loves climbing around the truck. I find paw prints on the hood and roof glass all the time. If you can’t park in a garage, I’m not sure what you can do to deter the bahviour other than catch it in the act and spray it with some water (from a safe distance). A few times doing that might train it not to go there.

Cat seems to like the view from up high.

Maybe try parking in the other direction? May try and hang out on the tonneau instead of the hood.

Outdoor cats are little killing machines. Probably just wants the high hunting ground?

I tried using cat repellent in the yard. It kept the cats away. But attracted coyotes! Turns out the smelly stuff was dried dog's blood. The coyotes thought there was a meal being served apparently.

I decided cats were preferable. If you don't have coyotes however, I found it at Home Depot.

SSScat is a motion sensor with a compressed can of air. Works great on cats and dogs and maybe Coyotes ?

Wow. Great feedback. We unfortunately have coyotes in the area. I’ve actually seen some foxes, too, in my yard.

I’m only a few miles north of downtown Phoenix, too. It’s a very urban area.

Well that’s interesting! But pricey. May consider it. Thank you!

How about a battery operated (light ) shock mat? Get them on Amazon, (pet section) it doesn’t hurt the animal , just gives an annoying “light “ zap and the cat usually jumps off. There also spray cans that make a noise when an animal comes near it.?

I love cats and love having them on my property but also hate having them on my car. Luckily they haven't discovered the Rivian as a sofa yet.

I use that mint rodent defense spray on and around all my outdoor cars to keep rats from nesting in them. Some people say that it also keeps cats away, but I'm not sure. Might be worth a try.

If nothing else, maybe get a car cover? It's annoying to take on and off every day but maybe this is a temporary issue and the cat will move on after a while.

…and the cat is back. Video from 6 minutes prior to this post. I think the cat loves the car as much as I do.

I honestly might put down a shower curtain liner as an inexpensive first attempt and see if that deters it.
