Tesla peeps are going to be pissed lol
I'm a Tesla peep and I am happy.
Teslas are 80% of the current US EV fleet so the addition of the other 20% is a small impact (moreso since most of these will continue to use CCS stations.)

Later that evening "someone" reset the charger I was on, effectively killing the charge
Are you sure someone actually reset it? If someone reset it, shouldn't your Rivian have just started charging again? Or does it require an unplug/replug event for it to consider starting again after an external "failure"?

Or maybe it was just being because of this:

as there were four chargers barely working

Being a retired LE I am waiting for the first disagreement, fight, shooting, or worse death due to an altercation at a Tesla supercharger involving a Tesla vs. other manufacturer driver. We all know how there are fewer fires per 100,000 of EVs vs anything else by a huge amount, but each EV fire is sure to make the news and pointed out to us by all our ICE owner friends. Just saying as we have a Tesla and a Rivian.
Thankfully your retired because the reality of today is quite sad.

This fatality shooting happened just recently. It doesn't involve Tesla vs. other manufacture, but it certainly shows that people today can't handle a disagreement without grabbing their guns.

Rivian should announce an expected price increase in 2025. This would offset those who plan on delaying their orders because of this
I have a reservation with expected delivery "early 2024". I plan to keep it and I don't care what kind of charge port it has. It's no problem to use an adapter.

Good news! I've learned that the adapter will be paired with 20' of liquid cooled 18 AWG cable that will not only make it a snap to handle and but also allow you to use just a single charging stall no matter where your CCS port is located. It will be available only with a 110v powered heat pump for the cabling however.

Cost and release date are both TBD.
So confused by this... do you mean that the adapter that we carry in our cars/trucks will have 20' of liquid-cooled cable attached, and that we also have to plug it in to a 110V outlet somewhere? And 18 AWG seems tiny. Was this a joke post?

Just can’t see how this is bad in anyway for the customer. Especially current customers. Can use any charger they want when convenient. Never have to plan with worry
Yes!
Until you've used the Tesla SC network you just don't realize how drop dead easy they've made it to use. We took a 450mi trip on Sat in our Model 3.. stopped at a SC at a rest stop on the NJ TPK.. charged for 15min, continued on to our destination in PA.. hit the same SC on the NJ TPK for another 15min on the way back home to Long Island and that was all we needed to do for a 450mi trip. No drama/anxiety, no down stations, didn't have to call customer service and plenty of stalls open at both rest stops. Just back in, plug in, use the restrooms.. get a drink.. go back to the car.. walk a bit and done! It's actually easier then getting gas because no form of payment needed and when it's charging you get a chance to use the facilities and stretch your legs which you can't do while waiting on a gas pump line.

Hopefully Rivian will make navigating to the Tesla SC locations as easy as it is on the Tesla UI in the car. Just two taps on the screen and the vehicle navigates to and even preconditions the battery for the optimal charge efficiency. One thing that I hadn't noticed before was that the SC station on our return trip that was very busy (lots of cars moving in an out, but always a few open stalls regardless) the station sent a message to the Model 3's UI stating something to the effect of "high usage Super Charger facility- charge automatically set to 80%, manually override if needed". So I guess that's one way to discourage people from topping up and occupying stalls at busy times.

I also have a Tesla and this makes me mostly happy.

More people using the Supercharger network means that more investment can be justified in the network.

It also means the competing networks really need to up their game to stay relevant. I hope they do. I believe it’s also a step towards a single universal plug, which will benefit everyone over the long term.

My only real concern is the form factor of the chargers and the length of charging cables. Tesla needs to start installing longer cables ASAP.

No one has mentioned if this change means some people cancelling their Max battery orders.

Access to the SC network solves maybe 50% of those range anxiety problems?
ooooh this is a good point. the only reason I EVER considered a Max Pack, was because of how many miles I drive, but if there's a supercharger every 100 miles or something similar (it's just a random metric don't jump me) then there's literally zero need.

But in perspective, there's plenty of crime, shootings and homicides at gas stations. This is bound to happen at charging stations too.

who needs RAN when you can have access to all the tesla supercharger? They might as well stop making RAN
Screw that.

Tesla should not be a monopoly of charge networks. Build out RAN, make a decent option of it.

Tesla peeps are always pissed. At least that has been my experience, even when having the audacity of using a free Tesla Destination Charger at a hotel/motel. I had one owner furious at me a few weeks ago in May, as there were four chargers barely working and he demanded that I unplug as I was "drawing all the juice'. He was in his high-end Tesla; me in my R1T; another fellow with an older Tesla; and another with an i3. I attempted to explain that none of us would have an advantage over the other, and that sent him into a rage, and he stormed off.
And worst of all he was a Republican!

(as long as you guys are getting tribal)

Nobody is going to buy a Rivian now just because of RAN. Until a few hours ago that was a possibility given the pathetic state of CCS. That's all changed now. Rivian should kill off the unprofitable RAN. Continue to build a relationship charging agreement with the 800 pound gorilla.

According to Google and the Whitehouse, the number is 7.5 billion to open chargers
That is the entire amount of the whole charger NEVI Program and not what Tesla got or gets. States have to give out the money as they applied for it and got accepted.

While I generally find this news to be welcome and good for EV consumers across the board.

I worry about the 350A limitation on the existing Magic Dock. This has us capped at ~150kW on the current battery architecture.

Does anyone have intel on whether this has been addressed? @OutofSpecKyle ?
