Yeah, going up the Coq while towing would be nerve wracking. Though I think there's a couple of 50kW chargers at Britton Creek? So doable, but could make for a long day depending on your route. How much more mileage would you get going that way with the max pack? I feel like it wouldn't be enough "more" miles compared to the large pack that you would be able to skip a charging stop anyway? I haven't done the math.I just looked at the R1 Shop and got excited, until I revisited the present large pack towing range. that members are getting.
Quite probably would be renting another vehicle to tow in the summer, If I took a quad motor now though. I just can't see the 160 km range in the Coquihalla mountain ranges, feeling warm and fuzzy going uphill with the boat full of gear, in summer weekend traffic (lol)
Darn tempting though.
Interesting numbers. Yup, looks like the Max would make a noticeable improvement in quality of life with those circumstances!Yeah, I've done that math based on the towing reports so far. Reported Miles per kWh are about 1.1 to 1.0 on the flat and about 0.7 on the uphill.
On the Coq, we are gaining 1200m in elevation within a short time (50km)
Km's from Hope BC to Merritt are 120.2 km the majority being uphill.
The usable range with the large pack (towing 6-7000#) would be 126.2 km
Estimated usable range for the MaxPack is 170 km
Merritt to Salmon Arm leg is 190+ km with a good uphill leg before it's downhill
Estimated with the large pack, you'd have to make one more charging stop on that leg.
With the MaxPack you are likely to make that leg towing, within the usable range.
Keeping in mind that probably 75% charging locations one is going to have to decouple/unhook the trailer,
Doing this trip would make minimum 3 charging stops with the large pack, but tenuous if you'd complete the Hope to Merritt leg towing. (Hope, Merritt, Kamloops)
With the MaxPack likely 2 charging stops (Hope, Merritt)
I have a R1S with 20" wheels & towed a 6400lb dump trailer (14300lbs combined R1S & trailer) to my property 40km out Princeton from Abbotsford (255km home to destination). This route has over 3000m of gains with approx. 2000m of loss and net gain of 1100m. I charged in Manning Park as a precaution but would have made Princeton with 10% remaining, or 2% short of my destination with no charging on route. This was traveling at 95km/hr including the steep hills in tow mode.I just looked at the R1 Shop and got excited, until I revisited the present large pack towing range. that members are getting.

I did notice after dwindling down, they added a few more trucks to the R1T shop this morning. Maybe calling customer service is worth it.So a guy on the Facebook group had ordered only three weeks ago totalled his current car. He went to the showroom begged them for access to the R1 shop and they did it matching him for delivery right away.
just kill me….
Thanks for the information, that's really good numbers, and definitely some good hills there.I have a R1S with 20" wheels & towed a 6400lb dump trailer (14300lbs combined R1S & trailer) to my property 40km out Princeton from Abbotsford (255km home to destination). On the return trip with 3000lbs less I made the full trip with 25% to spare driving quicker.
It sucks back the energy on the hills but coming back from the interior the regen really helps.
I much prefer towing with the Rivian compared to the Tundra it replaced.
If you are ok with towing a bit below speed limit your range will not take such a big hit.

Sounds like a good speed-related towing plan too.
How long was your charge in Princeton? (I noticed the Chevron put in some chargers)
I am guessing that I won't actually tow any long distances until next summer, assuming I get my R1T in the late fall, early winter as suggested.
The boat is probably a little more aerodynamic than a travel trailer, so am not too sure of the windresistance hit, I can't promise that I'd go super slow. I usually can tow at about 110 as the speed limit permits, 120 on the Coq feels a little fast when towing
I charged in Manning Park I don't recall how long. I was tracking my percentages per segment.I did notice after dwindling down, they added a few more trucks to the R1T shop this morning. Maybe calling customer service is worth it.

Can you confirm that you are able to tow in conserve mode? I didn't realize that was an option.I charged in Manning Park I don't recall how long. I was tracking my percentages per segment.
Boats are a fair bit better than RV's for the slipstream. I have found the charging network a bit underwhelming/unpredictable as far as KW output. The supercharging next year will help.
Oops, I was in tow mode as the other modes were not recommended. Can you confirm that you are able to tow in conserve mode? I didn't realize that was an option.
It's crazy, we put a deposit down a year ago and had heard nothing. Had not been even invited to configure our R1T yet. Went to the Rivian open house in Vancouver last November and they said "oh you will have one within a year of putting down a deposit". Then silence....until about 10 days ago we get this email inviting us to view R1T's that are ready for immediate purchase! So we selected a unit right away and lo and behold it's ready for delivery inside of 2 weeks we are told which is June 28!! We've been in touch with the Rivian Guide and we're just waiting to hear back about accessories and such. I don't like the fact that we have to pay a day in advance of getting to see the R1T but they assured us we are under no obligation to take it if there's something we're unhappy with. So, we'll see in a few more days.So anyone with a pre-order in B.C can get a vehicle straight away. You just have to call the service center and ask them for whats in inventory They apparently have "off-menu" trucks not in the shop available according to a poster who has been in contact with the delivery guys.
Also a little cheesed to find out the power tonneau cover has been discontinued only to be replaced by a manual 4 piece tonneau cover that is NOT included! That doesn't seem to be right at all. It's crazy, we put a deposit down a year ago and had heard nothing. Had not been even invited to configure our R1T yet.
