so I pulled off the four small bolts, holding the side, bed panel, and the bolts that you have to access from the tailgate. I loosened the back bolt, holding the tiedown strap. I didn’t want to remove it because I didn’t want it to fall down inside the truck.Can you please share how this can be done? Thank you.
I then was able to pull the panel out slightly so I could access the button. There are some clips so you can just pop the button out towards the inside of the bed. You might be able to do this from the outside with a couple of small screwdrivers without removing any bolts, but that’s not how I did it. And then unplugged the button and pulled the button apart with a couple of clips.
All I did was pull the plastic piece out that actually pushes in the button. So technically, the button still works if you push the outer piece in and stick your finger through it up into the switch itself.
After I was done, it looks exactly the same from the outside just can’t be pushed to open the tailgate.
