Can you please share how this can be done? Thank you.
so I pulled off the four small bolts, holding the side, bed panel, and the bolts that you have to access from the tailgate. I loosened the back bolt, holding the tiedown strap. I didn’t want to remove it because I didn’t want it to fall down inside the truck.

I then was able to pull the panel out slightly so I could access the button. There are some clips so you can just pop the button out towards the inside of the bed. You might be able to do this from the outside with a couple of small screwdrivers without removing any bolts, but that’s not how I did it. And then unplugged the button and pulled the button apart with a couple of clips.

All I did was pull the plastic piece out that actually pushes in the button. So technically, the button still works if you push the outer piece in and stick your finger through it up into the switch itself.

After I was done, it looks exactly the same from the outside just can’t be pushed to open the tailgate.

Can you do that without ruining the button or ruining the waterproofness of it? Maybe you didn't read the full thing I wrote but it essentially makes the truck think the button is still functioning, but it isn't.
yes, as long as you keep the parts from the inside of the button that actually toggle the switch part of it. The button just pops apart.

I would for sure lose something I removed from the button.

eh.. its easy, simply put the parts in a small zip-loc bag and tape the bag to the wiring of the switch inside.. then it is right there is you ever want to return the switch to functionality.

Thank you very much for sharing. I will have to try this. I'm hoping I can pull the switch out without taking out the panel.

I think you can. There’s only two clips on the side of the button that you have to push in and then it pulls straight out. Then when you’re done, you just pop it back in.

Thank you again. It worked! I removed the switch by pressing on the clip with a flat screwdriver. I removed the white plastic piece inside that pushes the button and put everything back together.

If human trafficking was on my mind, I wouldn’t consider a Rivian with a tiny bed. The comment is totally unnecessary and isn’t contributing to the original post in any way.

People want to use the spare wheel area to store to store valuables. There are many trucks available on the market without an entrapment button. It’s unnecessary if you don’t have a tonneau cover unless you can’t figure out how to get out from an open truck bed.

Doesn't the frunk have a manual release as well so that's insecure as well?

Yes the frunk has a manual release. In the frunk, someone has to be inside to be able to open it.

For the truck bed that doesn’t have a tonneau, someone can reach in and press the button. The tailgate would drop and spare tire storage area would be accessible.

I think the previous poster is referring to the fact that there is an *external* manual frunk release as well (it's there so you can get at the 12v batteries and/or the first responder HV cut area in the event that there is no 12V power to unlock)

The cabin and the gear tunnel are the only storage locations that are truly locked when the vehicle is locked.

I wasn’t aware that the frunk had an external button to open it without a key. Where is this located?

I believe there is a cable to manually release the frunk but you have to unscrew a panel to access it.
