Posted this to my IG Story recently, and it summarizes what I currently experience. This was at the airport, no extreme temps either way, no special measures taken (Gear Guard ON, didn’t set to Shipping mode or Camp mode, etc). I didn’t check on the vehicle at any point between departure and arrival (didn’t wake it during it’s parked state).

That is crazy. Still seems to be significant amount of drain for many. I don’t know how I got so lucky. I also don’t seem to have noticeable drain at work for 10+ hours. Of note: great guard on but I do have lag does unlocking every time after leaving for a long time nowadays. I do have a conditioned garage to not sure if that makes a difference. Battery level was 52% in comparison if that might make any difference as well. May test at work today for drain.

Well... Gear guard on
Not really a valid excuse, for a couple reasons:
1) The whole point of Gear Guard is to work while you’re away from the vehicle. If owners are having to disable this security feature because it excessively drains the battery, what’s the point (of having it)?
2) My vehicle recorded exactly two events over that 5 day period (i.e., wasn’t constantly being evoked)

FWIW, I did a similar trip back in April and saw half the SOC/range loss (with much colder nighttime ambient temps). Same parking lot, same vehicle settings, but on previous software (version .14?)). 5% loss (3.5 miles a day) over 4 days, almost to the minute.

It's still keeping hardware active that otherwise wouldn't be. Whether it's worth it or not for you to have the video capture going for the entire period you're away from the vehicle is something you're going to have to decide. It seems to about double my battery drain but I'm typically driving the truck every day and it's typically plugged in otherwise, so hard to really care about it, personally.

99% of the time my truck is plugged in to 60A L2 Rivian charger in the garage, where GG isn’t active (not needed), so I don’t really care either. In fact, I don’t generally go back and review GG recordings unless I have a reason to suspect something. But that doesn’t mean I should have to deactivate it, because of excessive power drain. And don’t Teslas have this feature? Don’t think they lose 2% (or more) battery per 24 hour period because of it. (Don’t own a Tesla, so don’t know).
At the end of the day, I’m not personally effected by phantom drain. Again, most of the time I’m plugged in at home. I only posted the IG Story because I was surprised by the drop given how little it lost in the April event. And it’s worth monitoring, so I know what my vehicle is doing given I do a fair amount of travel where the vehicle sits in an airport parking lot for days.

Yeah Tesla's also used a bunch of power in monitor mode. It's a worthless feature in my opinion to burn 1kwh a day to run some dash cams.

It's crazy how varied the drain is where some people lose nothing. However people are trying to narrow down the drain to zero but everyone has different settings. If the settings are worked out to get zero then we can work back from there to see what trips it to 1kwh.

Final numbers after being away 180 hours (7.5 days) is a loss of 24 miles/7 percent. At home, in a garage, gear guard off. Software 2023.22.0.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Two recent experiences, both on pre 2023.22.0 build:

1) 10 days gone, GG off, truck in garage, locked and keys nowhere nearby: 0.5% / day loss
2) 10 days gone, GG ON, truck at SFO parking garage, keys hopefully nowhere nearby: 1.5%/day loss

I’m going to do another test on next trip, leave GG off (if I get a good spot somewhere clearly away from idiots) and see how it goes. This will be with the latest SW release.

So I have been waiting for an opportunity to see how the drain would be when parking for a while. For background info, I’m an airline pilot so one of my concerns would be long term airport parking. I’ve had 7 teslas in the past, and their drain has become a non issue. I can park my Model 3 for 30 days at my work airport and lose less than 10%.

On Sunday 23 July, at 7:25pm I parked my R1S with 86%, 265 miles of range. I turned Gear Guard off and left it. I never opened the app but did download the 2.0 update. Fast forward to today, Sunday, 30 July at 12:50pm, I woke the car via the app to cool it down before I get in, and it was at 79%, 248 miles of range.

That’s not zero drain, but certainly manageable for parking for a week or 2. Just wanted to drop a data point for people wondering.
