Hi All,
I just wanted to share my experience in case it helps anyone else....
After 972 days and doing a lot of mental ping pong on if I really want to hand over this much $ for a car I excitedly picked up our R1S. It looked beautiful and was super fun to drive, and still is, but I noticed a few things right away.
1. An interior light was constantly going on and off on its own for no reason. Something that should have been easily noticeable during an inspection
2. I could not get my compressor hose to hold onto the nozzle/connector. I saw on the forms tis was a common issue. Again, during inspection, do they not test this? I got a mobile appt for this one and #1 above for a few weeks out.
3. The first weekend my 4 year old and I went out to the aquarium and I used the app to start cooling my car on our 2 min walk back. It was like 122 in the cabin and we just couldn't get it to cool. My son literally had wet hair and beads of sweat on his cheeks. I was scared he was overheating so we went home instead of continuing on with other things. I also didn't think that second row was getting enough air, whether I put it on auto, which a service chat agent told me, or manually maxed it out.
After #3 I thought I would call a service agent to see if this is what I should expect of an EV in these temps or if I'm not using the AC right or if something is wrong. Ultimately, given the story of my son they deemed this a critical/safety issue and got me a SC appointment in a few days. I was grateful for that given the backups I have heard about. I asked if they could take care of 1 and 2 while they looked at 3 and they said no because they are trying to just focus on critical issues right now.
So I brought my car in on a Friday. I told them of my AC issue, and admitted maybe it's me/user error and not the car but I need to make sure of that. I told the tech the agent told me to use Auto and he said don't do that. Have your temp always on low, set it to sync and just manually max everything out. Also in the second row on the console there it looks like the seat icon is for each person but its actually for the chest height vent and the floor vent so both should be on. People are missing that. But he would take a look anyway. I asked if they would look at my mobile ticket stuff at the same time and at first they said no and then they asked what they were in case they were small. Then they said they were small so they will just knock it out.
Then they called me a lyft, got me to enterprise for a rental very seamlessly, upgraded my car there and off I went home. Over the weekend I looked at the app and saw my battery draining. I assumed they keep an eye on this and come monday I would see it was charging. Monday morning my app said it was dangerously low plug it in. So I had to text my contact to plug it in. Kinda concerning I had to do that and would recommend everyone keeps an eye on theirs. Going to 0 is bad for your 12 volt.
On Monday they fixed everything. Installed my new light and said the below:
"We did an evacuate and recharge of the ac system and actually found the rear vents were blowing warmer than they should. We fixed it, as well as secured the adjusted air compressor nozzle."
I was super stoked they knocked out all 3 items from me.
They also said I could just leave my rental car with them and they would take care of everything which was nice.
When I picked it up it came out filthy. It was clearly outside in the monsoon and they didnt wash it even though I gave them 45 mins to when I was coming. Maybe they were more concerned about getting more charge in it since they forgot about that and it was at 21% when I picked it up, which was fine for my ride home.
So pros and cons here!
1. I paid a ton of money and waited a long time for this car. It also had a good chunk of miles on it when I picked it up. If they were testing and inspecting it which didn't they catch these things? CON!
2. They got me into the SC quickly. PRO!
3. They fixed all 3 things in one go. PRO
4. Rental car process was easy and free and they allowed me to upgrade so I didn't have to drive a corolla. PRO!
5. Car came back dirty. CON!
6. They didn't watch my battery while in the SC. CON!
7. Otherwise my contact was responsive and moved things quickly. PRO!
So in summary, if you think your AC isn't doing what it should take it in. And watch your battery when it's there.
