Here is the situation folks. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I am using a Gen 3 Tesla Wall Connector with the TeslaTap Mini adapter.

I have the charge limit set to 80% and when I plug it in it charges to 80% no problem. The problem is that it will not maintain the 80% charge after that. Even if I unplug and plug it back it it will still not charge back up to 80%. Only after I drive the truck a bit and then plug back in will it then charge back up to 80%.

Its not a huge deal as it only loses a couple percent. For example this morning it will had 77%. My R1T on the other hand, which is using a Gen 3 J1772 TWC (No Adapter) maintains its set 70% charge limit.

It would appear that once charging stops on the adapter it will not initiate another session or maintain the soc. I am thinking I may have to swap out with a J1772 TWC. Anyone have any ideas?

EDIT: Looks like several owners are having this issue. Please cast your vote above. I have made Rivian aware of this thread and they are looking into this issue.

I have noticed this behavior on occasion as well. Perhaps coincidentally, I am also using a TWC that was converted to J1772. I too am charging to 80% and I too have not noticed this issue when charging at 70%. I need to give 85% a try to see if maybe its the fact that its set to a custom rate of 80% and there is something it doesnt like about that. In any event, Im here for the responses.

It did it at 70% too for me. When I noticed it would be down a couple percent like 68%. Maybe not so much a issue because the wife just started daily driving it today, but I'm concerned about if we go on vacation and leave it the truck might run itself down.

I also contacted the makers of the TeslaTap. If I can't rectify it I may swap the charger out with another J1772 Tesla charger.

Never noticed this behavior with my MY or B-Class Electric, all using the same charger. Seems to be specific to the Rivian.

Yeah, I am going to see if TeslaTap responds but if not I may submit a service request to Rivian.

To me it seems more of a vehicle glitch if the charger is unplugged and replugged but still not initiating the charge until you drive.

I'd try a hard reset and see what happens. Mine will charge and maintain SOC until I unplug.

What is your charging setup?

The truck knows that it's plugged in and the Tesla wall connector knows that it's plugged in and in standby because it has the blue light lit. So I would tend to agree. It's some glitch with the truck. I opened a case with Rivian charging team and I'm going to continue to troubleshoot.

Two different responses here:

1) Plugged but loses some range - this is normal. It’s not supposed to keep energy flowing non-stop to keep it at 80%, for example. It will let it drop to something like 78% then bring it back to 80%. This is for battery health.

2)Unplug and won’t go back to target charge - sounds like a software issue. It should absolutely “top” off if you’re unplugged for a while and plug it back in.

Possible...but it's losing more than one or two percent. It's lost as much as 5%. The T doesn't do it. Need to do more testing as time allows.

I’ve noticed this on my R1T w/Emporia charger since the last Rivian SW update. Previously, the vehicle would top up throughout the day and maintain within 1% of my set limit.

After the most recent update, the vehicle only charges to the limit when initially plugged in, then proceeds to lose charge without topping up. I haven’t left it for more than 3 days or so since this started, so I’m not sure if it would go on indefinitely or not? I’ve gone out to it 3-5% below my set charge limit in those 3 days.

It would be concerning if I left for very lengthy periods of time if it truly has stopped all topping up. Because there’s not even a “stop charging” or “start charging” button in the app when it’s in this state, it will only charge again after being physically unplugged and re-plugged-in.

Might be worth noting if people having this issue also have it set to only charge during certain times? Afaik I could plug and unplug mine all day long and it won't start again until it reaches the time window I've set in the vehicle. ?

I have never used a charge schedule, we don’t have ToU plans here.

If the charger is telling the vehicle it isn't available or can't provide any current, it does seem like the vehicle just sits at "completed" once it hits that state.

For me, my charger reports its state as “Offering Charge” when this happens.
