I don't disagree that they would/should have tried.I'm sure they've tried to utilize the existing structure. It would be poor business sense to alienate 30-50k worth of customers.
Didn't they say in a recent q & a that they were NOT doing Bumper or winch in near future....I saw this truck a few months ago when I was off road in the eastern sierra. Want a factory winch and a stronger bumper so badly!
It's only $$$. Start saving today ?It seems to me that if we ever get the option for that winch and bumper it will be with a complete spec refresh. If Rivian won't provide for or let current owners, who they forced into manual covers, retrofit the new auto tonneau cover, they are highly unlikely to make this available to us.
And if they did, it would likely be around $10k.
I've thought more about this. Unless available as part of an off-road package on a new vehicle, I'm now thinking a retrofit would cost $15k from Rivian. It's only $$$. Start saving today ?
The Ford has “Rivian Automotive LLC” with the DOT number on the side. More likely Rivian is moving it themselves.Perhaps they (Rivian) simply called a tow service that was available in the area of the trail where the failure happened?
why on earth would something like a winch bumper and winch not be available as an aftersales accessory?I would be absolutely shocked if there were a retrofit option:
1) The Tesla way, which Rivian follows, is hardware upgrade as you go, no retrofit, and buy a new one if you want the new hardware - whatever it is. This is the way.
2) SCs have zero capacity to do any repairs right now on existing fleet. They'd have even less capacity if there was some sort of retrofit like this. It takes time and money that Rivian doesn't have or want to spend to make it work as a retrofit.
3) RJ already said they'd have some hardware updates, etc after they refresh the assembly line at some point next year. See #1 above.
If the Rivian SC’s weren’t totally overwhelmed, I’d agree they could be. With 3+ month wait times, they gotta focus on making sure R1’s are actually operable as designed before having techs spend time adding accessories, even at huge margins.why on earth would something like a winch bumper and winch not be available as an aftersales accessory?
These sorts of accessories are money printing machines.
Also, that pic doesn’t look like an “accessory” that would be DIY. If it were, sure, sell as many as you can like some Jeep part. But that looks like it takes legit work to do at an SC. Right now, the SC can’t even put on new $4,500 wheels until end of October…why on earth would something like a winch bumper and winch not be available as an aftersales accessory?

There must have been a Sasquatch behind the wheel!I love how phone cameras nowadays have like a billion pixels, but whenever someone posts some important picture, it looks like it was taken from some Blackberry in the 90s.
Take my money! I want itI saw this truck a few months ago when I was off road in the eastern sierra. Want a factory winch and a stronger bumper so badly!
Note: this is also where the front radar units are. Also note that the corners of the front bumper in front of the front tires have been "carved out" for additional clearance.
