Same here. I have over 15k on our 21s and they are in good shape. I rotate every 5k and only drive in all purpose -standard. I don’t expect to get over 40k miles out of them but should be acceptable.Real questions and I don’t intend to be snarky.
What tires do you have? How many (be honest)“spirited“ starts and stops a day are you doing? Could it be an alignment problem?
Reason I ask is I’ve got 15k on my 20s and they still look great, but I pretty much drive like grandpa.
Getting a 7,000+ lb vehicle up to speed and stopped again requires a lot, the 835hp makes it feel effortless but it’s not, the tires are paying for it.
The tire Mfgrs. can make harder rubber, the soft rubber is what wears out so quick. Sure the weight is is issue but there are vehicles that weigh many times the weight of a R1T and get 40K miles. The tire companies could make a 21" tire for speed, one for quiet, one for mileage, Etc.The tires aren't particularly bad. There's only so much tire technology can do for a 7000 lb vehicle with over 800 hp and instant torque that also needs to be as efficient as possible. It's well established that EVs wear through tires faster than ICE vehicles. That kind of tire life is also not at all uncommon for sports cars running summer tires so I've been down this road before with other vehicles. I can see where you would be caught off guard if you simply assumed you would be getting the same tire life as whatever you've been driving in the past.
I wonder that about so many posts I see on here complaining about things that aren't an issue for me. I have almost 15k miles on my T(5 on 21's w/ Verdes, 5 on 20's w/ Nokian snow tires and about 5 on the AT's) & 2k on my S w/ the 20 AT's. I went off road quite a bit on the 21's and have done quite a bit of highway driving on the 20's. They all still look pretty new. I usually drive pretty conservatively until I have an unsuspecting new passenger, then I can't help but scare the hell out of them.Troll. First and only post. Didn't even bother to search to find the hundreds of other posts on this topic. Hasn't bothered to respond to the replies.
Unfortunately there's a little more to it than that and Rivian is trying to balance many different characteristics, not just maximize wear. The tire Mfgrs. can make harder rubber, the soft rubber is what wears out so quick. Very true.Unfortunately there's a little more to it than that and Rivian is trying to balance many different characteristics, not just maximize wear.
name one vehicle that weighs many times more than the R1T in per tire weight.Sure the weight is is issue but there are vehicles that weigh many times the weight of a R1T and get 40K miles.
