I got this in my email in Ontario:

Your updated delivery estimate is now in your Account. The window we have provided is in 2024, however, if you would like to take delivery in 2023, we are offering the option to switch to Performance Dual-Motor to get an R1S this year. This opportunity is being offered to a limited number of our earliest preorder holders on a first come, first served basis.

Our ability to accelerate delivery timing is a result of our successful Dual-Motor production ramp, which is enabling us to deliver more Dual-Motor vehicles in 2023. We will be prioritizing Performance Dual-Motor deliveries this year, with Dual-Motor vehicles to follow.

I am planning to stay Quad motor and good to wait till 2024

I wondered on here if they were going to deliver for Quebec early reservation holders from the Ontario location - just got bumped from sept-dec 23 to apr-june 24, that settles that...

The funny thing is I have a friend with a post-increase R1S reservation and the same exact configuration and colour as another friend with a pre-increase reservation. I'm also a pre-increase R1S reservation holder with the same config, but a different colour than my 2 friends. All of us in the GTA, only difference being the timing of orders and my colour. Prior to this update, my buddy with the later, post-increase pricing had the earliest delivery estimate (late 2023) and the two of us locked into the pre-increase pricing had a late 2024 delivery estimate.

With the latest update we both moved up to April-June 2024, and my buddy with the post-increase pricing was pushed back to 2024. The thing that makes me laugh is we were all offered the choice to move to/stay with a 2023 delivery. The two of us with an earlier reservation got the "This opportunity is being offered to a limited number of our earliest preorder holders on a first come, first served basis." wording, and my other buddy that got pushed back got "Unfortunately, your delivery window estimate has moved back to 2024 due to an adjustment in our build plan....If you would like to still take delivery in 2023, we are offering the option to switch to the Performance Dual Motor."

Man, Rivian marketing is just such a sh*t show - do they think that people won't share their emails??? They prioritize post-increase orders, then try and push both to the Performance Dual Motor, saying that it's only available to early orders...while offering the same thing to late orders to maintain their early delivery.

Should mention that we all plan to stick with Quad. $700 savings to go from Bosch-built to in-house Enduro motors with a shorter warranty is not enough incentive. Neither is a 6-9 months shorter delivery window when you've already waited 3 years...and delivery estimates change with every update anyway.

The general consensus is we'd actually be happy deferring until 2025 when they introduce the NACS charge port. And, I was kind of hoping that they'd incorporate a heat pump.

I thought Rivian had stated they were focusing on the R1S as opposed to the R1T. I wonder how that factors into everybody's delays who were expecting deliveries from Ontario? Does anyone with an R1S order have their delivery delayed as of yet? I'm sure we'll be hearing about a delay in the opening of the Toronto location.

That’s the thing,? it appears everyone with an R1S order is receiving this “special offer” email to change their configuration to Enduro motors and get the vehicle in 2023, but none of us (that I know of so far) with an R1T Launch Edition preorder have received the same option to change configuration and get our trucks this year….which proves Rivian has every intention of having the Vaughan SC up and running November.

That’s the silver lining, we get 2024/25 models possibly with NACS and auto tonneau covers…maybe. But I’m trying to figure out why it appears as though only R1S preorder holders are getting the “limited time special offer” for 2023 delivery if you change configurations? ?

Well just go the same email and chat customer support is queued like crazy.

Jan-Feb 2024 though atleast.

But what comes first. Dodge 1500 REV (buddy at Dodge and probably want a full size truck anyhow), Rivian goes bankrupt (not likely anytime soon as I hear that have tons of cash still) or I give up and go with Ford (after all I live down the street from one of their plants so good to show support).

Got a Tesla Model S so not hurting but want to try a truck again.
Ya my Cybertruck preorder may just happen by then after all, I’m beginning to have doubts about Rivian and the games they’re playing….

This is kinda where I'm at. We bit the bullet and brought a Model Y and we're loving it. And although the Y is smaller than we need at times, we've managed just fine. I have no issues waiting until 25 - the Tesla Network has spoiled me and having to deal with other networks will be a tough sell for me and mostly my wife.

Well, at this point I'm fine with the delays for my own delivery as I'm hoping they'll include the NACS and fix the auto tonneau. Heck, maybe they'll even get back on track with the accessories too.

Looking at the press release, it's likely that in 2024 Rivian will be able to use an adapter on Tesla chargers, it won't be until 2025 when they'll actually switch the outlet on the vehicle. I'm not keen on having to use an adapter each time I need to charge it. Unfortunately, I doubt that Rivian would want to carry the early orders for that long. That would be 3+ years for me. That said, I'm on the fence about taking delivery if I'm waiting until mid-2024 and don't have the NACS.

And don’t forget that Tesla is slowly upgrading their “magic dock” superchargers which have the CCS adapter built in. Carrying your own adapter is no big deal, I have a CCS to NACS adapter for our Model Y use it a lot during East Coast road trips

Re carrying and using a NACS adapter, you're all right, it's not that big a deal - I've got a MS and don't have any issue using the J1772 adapter to charge when I find free destination chargers. I think that the game changer will be having access to ALL of the supercharger network, not just a limited few designed for non-Teslas. What new EV owners (and legacy automakers) don't seem to get is, similar to ICE cars, the product is only as good as the ability to fuel/charge up quickly. Without an efficient fast charging network to support them, all these other EVs are just overpriced city cars.

The challenge now will be opening up all of the Tesla supercharger network to non-Tesla EVs, not just one or two chargers per location. What's problematic is the different location of the charge ports on many non-Tesla EVs, including Rivians. With the charge port on the rear right on Teslas and the short supercharger cord, a Rivian, Ford, etc. needs reconfigured Tesla superchargers to use their network. I don't know how easy it would be to redesign the chargers with longer (liquid-cooled) cables to accommodate all these vehicles, but I suspect that the charge port on all these cars will eventually be moved (to the front middle, front left side or back right). That is something that I'd like clarity on and, if it's happening, I'd rather wait to have the updated charge port/location so that I can access the entire Tesla supercharger network.

To my other point, I love the Rivian design. It's very functional but it makes for a very inefficient EV. That's made up for by a huge battery, but they can really help us all get more range with more efficient motors and a heat pump. I expect that improvement to be made sooner rather than later.

Bottom line, after waiting for 3 years, I'd hate to move up a couple of months only to have these two improvements introduced right after I take possession. Aside from the obvious benefits, it'll also kill the value of models with the old configuration.

It’s less relevant now that we have all been delayed, but for what it’s worth, it looks like the lifts are mostly installed ……

They’ll be busted with “parts no longer available” by the time Rivian starts delivering our trucks! ??
