Today I received an email indicating I can take delivery before the end of the year if I switch to Performance Dual Motor. I'm currently signed up for the Quad Motor drive mode and my configuration indicates a delivery window of January-February 2024 which is now a few months earlier than recently indicated. I've waited so long already that a few more months doesn't matter so much, though I am curious to hear from those who may have input on what they love/don't love about their Performance Dual Motor in hopes that it'll help me in my decision. Do I go with the Performance Dual Motor or stick to my original configuration of Quad Motor?

I don't mind waiting a few more months for my original configuration unless the range and efficiency for Performance Dual is truly compelling. And I'm also wondering if there's a difference in price, though am guessing this is a question for customer support.

I would go for the quad if you have pre march pricing.

Would you pay $500 for 1 year of additional warranty, 170 hp plus true off-road capability and torque vectoring?

As a shareholder I’ll ask you nicely to please switch to the dual motor and collect your $500.

Duals have a shorter warranty, less horsepower & torque, automatic conserve mode, more range, and fewer drive mode choices compared to quads. Price for quad over dual performance is about $3000

I received the same email. I keep wondering if .4 sec of 0-60 time is worth 30 miles of extra range and $500. I currently have a quad R1T and love it, but I wonder if the Dual Motor is quieter and doesn't suffer from half shaft clicking...... also Sandy Monroes indicated from his test drive that the Dual Motor may have a softer ride - R.J. confirmed that they did tweak suspension settings for the new drive train. If it was $1500 I would have already done it.

I would stick with the four motor version. I suspect that in the not too distant future, dual motor Rivians will be the standard. Four motors will be a significant upcharge if at all available. In the future, four motor Rivians will be like hens' teeth.

With the Quad you get the dual mode......just have to switch it into COnserve mode. With the Quad, I think you will be happier with it because the extra 30 or 40 miles of range you get isn't worth what you will sacrifice.

When we put our reservation down last October (2022), we were told late 2023 at the earliest.......well, we configured it in March of this year and took delivery on May 3rd. We got the R1T in Blue (see avatar).

If they said it didn't have half-shaft issues and suspension was better, I'd take a dual in a heartbeat. The power of the quad is great but if you are just driving around town and don't go offroad, performance dual is all you need.

Quad motor Rivians (Bosch or Enduro) may not survive in favor of dual motor Enduros. It depends on order backlogs and path to profitability. Get one while you can.

Rivian has a history of discontinuing specs without notice.

It might be quicker to build the dual motor variant, thus they are pushing the quads out to next year to hit their 52k number.
It would be a shame if they killed the quad motor, that was one of the reasons I got the truck.
