Parents would pay extra for this, I imagine.
I would think they should buy tablets instead. Bigger screens, different kids can watch different things at the same time. They can play games. Tablets aren't that expensive anymore.

I am a brand new Rivian Forum member (although I have been a classiczcars Forum member for years with my 71 240Z).

I took delivery of my Forest Green R1S with black interior this Saturday. VIN# 19751. Order Date Dec. 2021. This my first EV and getting used to it. I noticed a couple issues right away like my passenger A pillar trim is not properly installed and the subwoofer has a rattle when the music is turned up. Hopefully, the Portland, OR service center isn't too backlogged but these are minor issues really.

I have been reading this forum since I ordered so I knew some things to ask the guide on delivery. My guide has been there 2 years and seemed very knowledgeable. I was told charging speed should be updated to 250kw peak speed very soon. She also mentioned streaming services will be coming likely before the end of the year. Both good news!

One improvement I would love to see if the option to have the main screen turn off and keep the icons at the bottom. Having a large screen always showing especially at night is a bit distracting. But so far love it and the Forest Green color has received universal praise.

Excited to be part of the community and I learn a lot!

The truck can't handle 200kw for more than a few minutes, and then it says reduced speed, so if they're going to unlock 250kw I would hope that comes with a software change that impacts heat management for the batteries, otherwise it'll end up making the charge time longer as the battery will get hotter at 250kw versus 200kw

EV6, if memory serves me correctly, has an 800V architecture. This would allow it to charge faster than a 400V architecture.

Amps = heat with regards to batteries and conductors. Electrical energy is needed to push current (measured in Amps) through a the resistance of a wire. That electrical energy will be dissipated in the form of heat.

You can charge at a lower amperage on 800V than a 400V architecture but charge at a higher kW.

For instance:
200kW / 400V = 500A
250kW / 800V = 312A

Higher voltage and lower Amps are better and why so many people were hoping the Rivian's had "hidden" 800V support back in the days.
And, this is why none of the EV manufacturers using 800V have committed to using Tesla’s NACS charging standard so far.

That's not true, GM uses 800V architecture in the Hummer EV and upcoming Silverado EV and they are switching to NACS. NACS supports up to 1000V, whether some, all or none of their stations support it today is a different discussion.

250 will be pointless with EA as it will only maintain this due to heat management and then will throttle down to 37. Both my rivians will do this every time I charge with a low SOC. Never get more than 2-3 minutes of any speeds above 200.

GM's architecture is still 400V. They are just doing something fancy with the double stack batteries to enable charging at double the voltage. Doing this lets them charge as if it were native on systems that support either voltage.

I would just like the rear screen to allow the kids to control their own temperature, that is my only request. I mean my 2008 BMW X5 had this for goodness sake. It is the one thing I was genuinely surprised by upon pickup. Never even thought that it would not have 3 zone climate control.

I've used the 350kw EA chargers to get over 200kw. Only once I got throttled to 37kw due to cable cooling broken.

During a good session, my R1T will hold >200 kW for 15 minutes when starting from a low SoC (~10%). I was suitably impressed because it added 50 kWh in 15 minutes.

had the same issue but on the drivers side on our R1T. Mobile service came out to the house to fix that and a couple more issues. The rattling speaker is a known issue and only can be properly fixed at the service center. In the mean time, turn the 3D sound off and lower the bass a little.

I wonder if that will allow a consistant speed of charging. On a 350kW system, I will get up to 210 and then as it gets closer to full charge, it will slow to about 75kW

You can adjust the brightness of the screen, especially for nighttime driving. I just wish that the audio controls for Spotify or any media playing, could be moved the drivers side so it is easier to access.

I know this was talked about that they are built from the start with 800volts in mind years ago. I keep thinking/hoping Rivian already did what GM is doing in splitting the battery pack so 400v goes much farther or have some other solution up their sleeve. Do we know for sure the pack is not engineered this way?

It seems incredibly foolish in our legal environment stating it can support up to 300KW of power from the beginning if they cannot deliver it. The recharge speed is a key item for me and I am expecting the charge curve to continue to improve as they have more data as we have seen already since they started rolling out.

So it really depends what state of charge. If you start above above 40% and stay there for about 4 minutes, you get to about 45% and the normal charge curve kicks in come down to about 195kw and you are good. But pretty guaranteed if you find a new EA charger it won’t stay sustained 200 plus for more than 5 minutes without having to unplug and plug back in.

Is this at EA chargers?? On neither of my rivians have I ever been able to sustain 220+ for more than 5 minutes without EA throttling down to about 37-40kw

Sure but the RAN also doesn't stay above 200kw very long. That's not EA's fault, that's due to Rivian's charging curve.
