Here's a very typical (in my world) use case for four tie downs: Anytime I transport anything that could fall over in a hard turn or stop I use an 'X' pattern of bungees over and or through anchor points on the object. Imagine a 5 gal gas can (I know, I know, why is there a gas can in a Rivian) — I am definitely going to tie it down with an 'X' pattern. The point is that by using the 'X' pattern (even with the relatively small front to back distance between tie downs) you get a LOT more assurance that the object won't shift or fall over. Hell, I do that pattern when bringing home a gallon of paint.

And BTW, I asked CS where I could buy additional tie downs and she replied that she has no information indicating that they will be offered for sale. So when I get my R1S Q4 (fingers crossed) I'm going to design and make similar ones (not as pretty, of course) and make them available until Rivian starts selling us the pretty ones.

Mine was delivered 9/30/23 with zero tie downs. Had to open a ticket for them to bring a set to install.

oh my.

that was one of the things i noticed at my delivery. i had remembered on the car reviewers' youtube videos, there being four. my delivery guy said all come with only two. and that if i wanted to, i could buy two more to install. probably have to call rivian parts store ... hours of waiting on the phone for that.

I found a set on Ebay (doesn't seem to come up very often).

Contact Rivian Service. They can arrange an order of a second pair of cargo tie-downs for you through yours Service Center. Mine were $261 for the pair tax included.

WTF... That's outrageous for couple of tie downs.
They are nice and pretty hefty for the size, but yeah $250+ is a bit much. I paid $150 and that hurts already.

Are they any different than the pair that came with the vehicle?

If not, I know exactly what they are. I have two of them thrown in under the cargo floor cover, since my cargo liner covers up the tracks. Still, my comment stands. These tie downs should be no more than $40~$60/pair. Rivian has the economies of scale on this items since they provide 2 per vehicle - now over 24K vehicles this year so around 48K tie downs so far.

When I placed my preorder, the website stated that it came with 4 so they are making these into a profit item at this point. Just like the 12V in Frunk and under the center console, Rivian keeps deleting features from their vehicles. Camp speaker will be the next deleted item, along with the flashlight in the door.

I don't disagree with you that pricing is excessive but that's the Rivian tax. Nothing part wise is cheap on these vehicles. I would love to find aftermarket ones for $20-30 if they were available.

Is the track compatible with any off the shelf tie down anchors? I don't really care if Rivian branded but I would like to be able to add a couple.

I haven’t looked yet, but is the tie down channel the same size as the cross bar channel where attachment cleats slide into? If so there may be some third party options.
