Part of the problem is that so far, there's only 6 Dual Motor vehicles registered on Electrafi out of ~250 vehicles:
https://electrafi.com/firmwareRivian.php

So I would expect there to only be ~600 Dual Motors in existence. Even less for Max Pack.

I am eagerly awaiting an Out of Spec video detailing exactly this (even though I'll watch it at 2x speed and likely skip to the highlights). But the reason their coverage of the Quad was so good 2 years ago was because Rivian loaned them one for like a week.

This time around we have to wait for actual owners to collaborate with creators.
So there should be 6 videos by now.....

Took delivery of R1T max on October 16. Not much to report yet - only about 180 miles. So far range seems to be in line with real world (only 180 miles on odometer). I have no plans taking it off-roading any time soon, but plan to update on real world range mileage. Northern Ohio can get bitter cold - so this will put the battery the test.
Come visit us down central Ohio, it's warmer.

Was really hoping for the 180 kWh R1T for long summer road trips and being able to cope with lack of working chargers en route.
It's not 180 kWh. It was supposed to be, but it's not. According to Car & Driver via Rivian PR, it's 149 kWh gross with an estimated 142 kWh usable vs 135 kWh gross and 127ish kWh usable for large pack.

Yes of course it is not. That became clear when they started advertising 400+/- range. At best it was maybe 155 kWh
For a while, I was hoping that they were simply underpromising and potentially over-delivering.

I am definitely disappointed, as the whole spiel was that with the quad motor, there was not enough room for the extra cells, etc. And how it would not fit in the R1S.

So technically after waiting this long, one could potentially own a R1T/S quad and have a max pack battery.

I still want the extra range, and with preorder pricing, I am still okay-ish, but It will be interesting how the pricing is structured in the future and sales unfold. I wish them success, but it's hardly the battery that I was expecting.

I'm disappointed as well. The *only* way max pack makes even the remotest sense is with PPH pricing.

Where are all the real world (non-Rivian sponsored) reviews of dual-motor Rivians off-roading and max-pack Rivians breaking range records?

They are supposed to be shipping, but I can't find a single independent review of either...

My wish list is:

Dual-motor off-road, back-to-back with a quad-motor, going through the same exact obstacle, in same conditions, on same day, where the outcomes are DIFFERENT between the two vehicles (I'm not interested in a situation where both truck roll-over a divot without an issue, but very interested in situations where one configuration performs clearly better than the other.) In particular, I'd love to see how Dual-motor configurations handle number of the well recorded instances where a quadmotor refuses (is unable to?) spin tire(s) that have traction.

Max-pax long-distance road trip, along side a large pack dual-motor, with comparison of apparent range, charging times during each occasion, total time spent charging, etc.

I fully realize that nobody "owes" me any of these insights, just sharing my enthusiasm for a deeper understanding of how the new configurations compare to the starting point that I'm familiar with (quad motor, large pack.)
You won't see those until more vehicles get delivered to private hands. Until then, all you have are the ones where Rivian invited media to Normal. Or, when they loan examples to individual journalists/bloggers for extended reviews. This is how the industry works. Not a Rivian specific thing.

There was plenty of room in the frame for 180 kWh, especially with the new chemistry. They could've added 2 more 15 kWh (with Large pack chem) without affecting any storage spaces or anything. But, it would've affected payload which is probably what killed it...that and having to redesign the pack and cooling to fit 2 more modules. That was never going to work for R1S which just sealed the deal. I will say that I took a Large instead of waiting and as soon as they announced the weak sauce capacity and the fact I couldn't get it with QM...I'm not disappointed I got the Quad+Large instead and have had it since March.

I agree with everything you just outlined. I also dove into a Quad large in March as well.

The Dream-Pack Edition
Had they gone with the current max pack, and added x2 17kWh modules based on the new density... it would have given a rough capacity of 187kWh or around 490ish miles after accounting for usable capacity. Even if it was only possible on the R1T, it would have found huge appeal. But it would have to be paired with a updated 800+V architecture to make charging a battery of that size less painful.

Holding out hope that it could still happen in the future. 800V and 180+ kWh and I'd be looking to upgrade for sure. I haven't been towing my race car yet, but eventually I will and that's where the extra range would be nice. Unladen it just doesn't need it for the vast majority of trips.

Sooooo...... You got something yet?
My new rig will not be built out for a couple of months. I am waiting on the 20x9s to mount Toyo Open County M/Ts on, that is looking like December. The DMs are shipping, though, so I expect content from the look-at-me crowd (utube) soon.

I have already weighed in on my experience with both.

No, not max pack, yet. Just DM Performance.

I am sure Kyle & TFL will have MP vids out in the next month or so, such obvious click-magnet material is too juicy not to.
