Likely will have a "Mountain mode" like the Volt had that forced it to reserve 30% of the battery at all time, and when it depleted below that would obligate the motor to run until it could return to that value.
20%. It’s published already in the specs.

If it is, no one will buy the BEV. I'm hopeful that isn't part of the plan.
Why not? Using half the battery resources means two vehicles on the road emitting zero emissions rather than one. This thing has the electric range to cover the daily needs of most drivers while offering the ease of use most buyers want who are hesitant to buy a pure BEV.

I've towed my 6,000 lb travel trailer enough with my R1S to be very interested in this solution. When you equate 1 mile of range to 1% of battery charge (real life) the whole "range anxiety thing" becomes a valid concern.

20 miles per gallon on the generator without towing. 1.6 miles per kWh (150 miles on 92 kWh). 20 kWh generation on 1.6 gallons. This makes it 20 miles per gallon.
Thanks...I shouldn't math in my head in the morning, clearly. 690 miles quoted combined range, 145 miles EV-only...so 550 miles into 27 gallons does mean 20 mpg.

I tow a 3500 pound travel trailer with a wrangler (5200lbs.) that has the pentastar. It does the job, but it’s pretty slow. How is that going to be different when the battery is depleted? My guess is with a full size truck hauling around a heavy battery to start with and then hooking up a 7-8k travel trailer (parachute) to the back of it and hitting the hwy at 70mph will have that little engine screaming for mercy, and the mileage will be horrendous.
In the Silverado EV towing test at TFL, they drove roughly 4 hours and depleted just under 200kwh. So consumption was around 50kw constant. That's quite below the 130kw (and 190kw peak?) of the generator. I don't think it will be screaming.

As others have mentioned it will keep a good percentage of the battery to provide burst power when needed. Generator will just work a bit harder after that to replenish the missing electrons.

Yup...seems pointless and wasteful.
My guess is it will be similar to a backup generator. X hours change the air filter, oil filter, etc. not bad to do.

Yes. I tow a race trailer ever weekend in the summer, it was a headache just to go 70 miles with the r1t so much so that I sold it.

There’s also a lot of people that just don’t care about emissions, particularly people like me who buy RAM stuff. Also, the pentastar v6 is bulletproof. This will have an easy life.
is the inline 6 just for the gas only option.

Also, show me how mining for limited minerals around the world is better for the environment than oil.

This is exactly why they made this truck. We will be ordering one for our business.

Much less CO2 from EVs. And don’t you have to drill holes all over the place for oil?

All I am saying is EV is not as clean as it’s made out to be. When they mine for batteries it leaves a wasteland. I also think that some of the way they are getting oil today is not great either.

Totally agree. Hopefully we can make mining more environmentally friendly with time. Oil is a limited resource and even if no one cared about the environmental impact eventually we have to switch to another power source.

When history is written, the Ramcharger will be viewed as one of the dumbest ideas that did not sell. If you think otherwise you're wrong. Or high. Or both.

It’s a definite step in the right direction. Using a full-size V6 to power a high output generator is a bit overkill but otherwise it’s a great concept. Combines the best of both worlds with EV and ICE.

Strongly disagree.

There is a large number of people willing to go EV or PHEV/EREV but want same traditional styling and traditional interiors offered by the legacy OEMs.

People that want all new will simply go with an all new pure BEV automaker.

IMO the ~8k Ford Lightnings sitting on dealer lots right now are sitting there because on paper they kinda suck vs Silverado EV and RAM REV.
Unfortunately here in Southern Utah there’s an attitude that staying with an ICE is the most visible “owning the libs” machismo. Cowboys perfer driving $80k pickups and buy “farm” diesel so they don’t have to pay road taxes.

Biggest difference is the oil is a consumable, the minerals used for the batteries is in the neighborhood of 98% recyclable so what they are mining today will be used for decades.
