.45 ACP right hip.

Not a lot of car-jacking here in Southern Oregon because that is kind of the norm here...
?
Yep… I don’t carry a 45 but I do carry either 9 or a 380. Sits in a holster in the door.
But the first and best defense is think about where you are going to and have situational awareness.

I work in SF Bay Area and have my permit. In the Bay Area not a lot of people have that luxury, so more than likely the “would be” carjacker wouldn’t be expecting to have a barrel pointing at them. Also being 6’2” and 230lbs helps a little

Agreed with Zoidz... I honestly don't expect a carjacker to be able to figure out how to drive it.
Exactly when we picked up our RT we have an an hour session to learn all the gadgets and buttons. I don’t think a carjacker would want to sit around for an hour while we instruct them on how to drive it lol.

My thought is that most carjackers will not be considering what vehicle it is, and will be thwarted by their own stupidity when they try to get it "started" and moving.

? The "perfect" compact, light weight CCW for one handed close quarters quick draw in a vehicle.
If your in the vehicle...floor it. Who said anything about concealing it? Best if it never has to be used :)

I don't promote violence...but self defense is important. I am mostly kidding about the firearm...its a nice one though.

Most car jackers will move on if they know someone is armed or will put up a fight. Having to figure out the Rivian might not make for the fastest of get away I would agree.

I will be a new R1T owner as of T-Day 2023 and have never owned an EV or any vehicle with enhanced anti-theft functions. Bear with me with this perhaps naïve question:

If someone points a gun at me and demands my key card, carabiner, or phone to control the truck how do I block their use? Will giving them the "keys" enable their full access? Is there a password I can implement? Will tracking assist Rivian in finding the stolen truck?
Thanks in advance for your help; I plan to keep bear spray in the door pouch regardless.
Two simple options: 1. If able, simply floor it! 2. If unable to leave, quickly get out and run away. Get a safe distance and watch the show as the moron tries to leave in it. (Remember to yell, "The key is in it. Take it." as you exit.)

As an aside, I'd think professional carjackers are usually too smart to bother with an EV because of all of the sophisticated electronics and tracking. It's the dumb ones to keep an eye on... and they probably won't know about all of the key options for a Rivian, or how fast you can drive away!

Please tell me that's a snatch reference.

Also i figured the OP was from Chicago, but they are not. I'm amused by all the posts saying "let the police track it and arrest them"

Gotta love Chicago, where criminals have more freedom than law abiding citizens.

There's also the case where someone beat a guy into a coma and wasn't charged because they couldn't question the guy in the coma, even though they had multiple eye witnesses.

Maybe they could add a silent alarm type option. This would allow the vehicle to behave normally for a set distance then start throwing errors on the instrument cluster / reduce performance so the vehicle is effectively playing dead. Once stopped it could flash all lights and honk the (not especially attention-getting on newer builds) horn. You’d be able to get to safety as they drive off and I suspect the thieves would quickly bail. Bonus points if the vehicle can start playing a message, “This vehicle is stolen.” in multiple languages via the external PWS speakers and the stereo, loudly.

Ultimately, it’s a possession which can be replaced. Unless there‘s another person or a pet strapped in I’d just let them take it and start figuring out what color to get for the next one.
that is brilliant indeed.
Have the speakers playing the announcement, flashing the lights, and other fun things on the inside screens and sound system.
maybe a super foul smell, then bring to a halt, lock the doors, and release some sleep gas,
Likely these features would not be something they would show at a rivian experience center or pop up event.

Not trying to be pedantic, but I don't think that link supports your assertion.

The link -does- confirm that vehicle thefts are more common in that part of the world, but carjacking and theft are two different things-carjacking is a violent crime, a subset of armed robbery. Vehicle theft is a property crime like burglary.

The same link shows the murder rate there to be well below the national average, in spite of above average property crimes. That would tend to support RIP's implication that widespread arms carry might deter violent crime.

I agree. The amount or car jackings that Oregon has in a year is probably what SF, Oakland, LA has in a month.

Having the "pew pew" (especially in the Bay Area), most criminals don't expect an owner to be armed since the local government and state government have basically made law-abiding citizens the criminals and the criminals FREE.
