Bear spray in the door pouch?

Dude, I can understand wanting to be prepared but don't you think that's a bit much?

How about you just floor it?
Yeah just say "Ruck it" and floor it through traffic or even cement walls

And despite all the right-wing media presentation of Portland as being a lawless hellhole, I have never known even an “acquaintance of an acquaintance” who has been carjacked. It just isn’t exactly a common thing at all.
Unjustified fear is key to the gun industry's success. And also Jason Aldean's success.

I will be a new R1T owner as of T-Day 2023 and have never owned an EV or any vehicle with enhanced anti-theft functions. Bear with me with this perhaps naĂŻve question:

If someone points a gun at me and demands my key card, carabiner, or phone to control the truck how do I block their use? Will giving them the "keys" enable their full access? Is there a password I can implement? Will tracking assist Rivian in finding the stolen truck?
Thanks in advance for your help; I plan to keep bear spray in the door pouch regardless.
I would just explain to the carjacker that the Rivian is not all that straightforward - you'll need to go into the Rivian app and add them as a driver, which will take a few minutes, as there's no physical key. And then they'll be giving you (and eventually the police) their email/phone number which is probably not great , not to mention that they'll be wasting "getaway time" downloading the Rivian app, assuming they have internet connectivity. And if they do not, they'll need to first connect to the WiFi hotspot on your car, which also will take some time, especially if you forgot the password.

Also let them know that while it may look aesthetically pleasing and perfectly functional, the powered tonneau cover isn't working which will limit many plans they may have - drug smuggling, kidnapping, gangbanging, etc. On top of that, the Rivian is easily trackable so not the best compared to plenty of other theft candidate ICE vehicles in the vicinity. And depending on how far away their escape destination may be, let them know the RAN network isn't really built out yet and most Tesla superchargers still haven't added functionality for your adapter, so they may not be able to get there with current battery levels.

My guess is that they'll think you're crazy and just move on.

But all of these are valid points and any carjacker should be aware.

The gear tunnel, however - as I always tell people when showing them my truck - is great for human trafficking.

I've used a concealed handgun to stop from being severely beaten by a criminal trying to steal from me while I was working in a bad neighborhood on two separate occasions. The fear isn't unjustified in certain areas and guns do work.

Right. The problem is that the fear industry makes everyone thinks they're going to get carjacked on their way to Costco.

Also, I think it kind of depends on the situation. I've seen a lot of comments about handing over your keys, stuff, and truck. I think that makes sense if you are out of the truck (e.g. loading stuff) or in an otherwise vulnerable position. However, if I'm in my truck with the doors locked and windows up (always should be the case), and the truck is in drive, and I have the space to maneuver out of the situation I'm not getting out of the truck and going to look to drive off vs hope and pray the person doesn't kill me once I'm standing outside in the open and a much easier target. If the person is willing to shoot at you while you drive away, he most likely wouldn't have much issue killing you while you stand there with your pockets empty and hands out. I like my odds better in the truck.

Fear industry also pushes climate change and submission to my wife. It's an effective and useful tool.

I think the bigger worry is what the thief will do when you give them the keycard. Most likely they will think you are lying when you say it is the key.

I guess Poulsbo has gotten a lot rougher since I was last there.

It's a truck. Step out, let them drive away. Leave and key/phone behind.

Call Rivian and have them revoke all your keys. Call the cops to have them pick it up by. GPS location.

Not complicated, but don't pull any tricks here. Either you have and are trained at shooting back (And even then you shouldn't), or you give them the truck.

I had a Turo guess that rented out our Tesla model X, first couple hours was fine, then I keep getting an alert about exceeding 90MPH, every couple minutes. I set the Max speed, which I can do on the Tesla app, and will get an alert when the guess get close or exceed 90MPH. I thought the guess was just heading to LA for the weekend, 8 hours later, with so many speeding alert, the guess was close to San Diego, I reached out and reminded the guess, that is unsafe to drive recklessly and excessively. Once the guess got to AZ, and turned southbound, and stop at supercharger, I stopped the charge using the app, and also turned on Valet mode, which limit the speed to 70MPH and lock the Frunk and disable the navigation and other settings.

hopefully someday, our RT1, will have live video through the app when it’s park. And live location when driving.
And if your renter was smart, he would have filed a civil lawsuit and taken you to the cleaners for using a GPS on a rental car. Sorry, stupid california laws.

Seems reasonable for basic "just in case." Inexpensive, non-leathl diversion.
You do need to be careful that wind won't blow some of the bear spray back into your vehicle. I think California classifies bear spray as a lethal weapon if used on a person. I am not a lawyer.
