Hello everyone,

first of all i want to introduce myself to all forum members, my name is Dan and i own a white r1t with forest edge interior, im located in dubai and i imported my car 4 months ago for the us ,
Drove it there for 5k miles then drove it in dubai for another 3k

first of all i love the r1t from the design to the performance and the options it offers.

every car can’t be perfect like you all know and if im going to choose my biggest downside of the r1t it’s going to have to be the wind noise.

here in dubai we have butter smooth roads and our highways speed limit is 140km / 87miles, and on that kind of speed all I hear is wind noise and alot of it ,

so I started my journey to try tom solve or minimize the wind noise , started looking threw the forum and experimenting with painters tape.

and what I concluded my wind noise it coming from the doors and the front windshield and roof area. Thank goodness my triangle mirrors have no issues .

so I visited a couple of shops here locally that deals with tesla and Land Rover defenders wind noise as those cars are notorious for it.

I learned alot but decided to tackle it myself , cause I thought i can do alot of a cleaner and more thorough job,
I did many things let’s start with the doors.

for the doors i used some weatherstripping rubber to have it installed exactly beside the factory rubber on the cab to give extra insulation also put a strip of rubber on the doors them self to have an extra layer of sealing.

as for the front windshield and the sunroof i have installed a flat rubber seal that you cant tell it installed after all said and done also installed it under the windshield.

and for the gaps in the roof between the black strips and the sunroof i installed something called a tube rubber seal that tesla owners use , you can squeeze it into the edges and it will drop in and you want see it at all.

and after testing the car on highways for the past 3 days I can tell you the wind noise went down almost 90 to 95% and by that i mean it almoSt dead silent. A huge different.

i was so excited to have solved this issue because almost everyday im on the highway commuting and the wind noise was starting to really get on my nerves.
Thought I would share my experience and maybe could be helpful to some of you guys. Attached you will find the products I used and tomorrow I’ll attach pictures of the car with all the rubber installed .
Thank you

I did this on my Ford Transit van, I slid 1/4" weather striping foam in the flap of the door gasket, like magic quite! Try it, the foam is sold at Hardware store for the cost of an over priced Starbucks cup of coffee.

@Horseytime , how is your fix holding up? If you still notice improvement, could you please post links to the products you used, and where you used them? This thread has so many product links, I wasn't clear on which ones you used.
Thanks.
Hey there, while sit here grateful I did not do this recent dreaded update, and feeling pain for those who did...I can report that my fix is holding up well, and still quite satisfied. I will find the links for you...I'll be back.

The small round tubular shape I inserted in the outermost seal along the top of the door on the outside of the top of door, see it inserted in the photos taken from the outside looking at the door.

The u-shape is added along inside of the top of the door from the front of the door until before it curves down at the back of the widow ( stand with door open and stand on inside looking at top of the door). I did not intall the U on the truck body, only the door as you hopefully can see. The door shuts well, but with it on the body it did not shut well and felt forced.

The T-shape along the front top of windshield and body. I did nothing more up there.

I ran the L-shape, with the L tucked under the A pillar and used a credit card sized plastic smudge? tool to work it into a little angle along the pillar on both sides, I did not use the adhesive as it wedged in easily.

I used a couple small pieces of the round tubing (not the best, just trying it out) to fill little gaps.

I didn't spend a ton of time, wanted to test it all out.

I will put pictures of what I did on the side windows by mirrors. Didn't take any yet.

All being written, I have found a really big difference. Low speeds are very very quiet now, even with the wind and crosswind, whereas before it was pretty ridiculously bad. Now at high speeds, certainly there are moments when the wind just whips, but even that is softer now, not the harsh whipping noises I was getting.

It is all much more diffused currently.

I'm not an expert. Just trying to quiet the cabin down, I drive a lot, far and many hours.

I appreciate OP's post, as it inspired my to get up and do something about it, and thanks to whom posted the amazon links for us in the States. I'll keep fidgeting now, subtlety, as I think I have it where I like it.

I tried everything but messing with the triangle window trim, and no change. So I'm pretty convinced it's there. I'm going to tape it up good with electrical tape later and see if I can find the spot.

Iam in the aircraft silicone door and hatch seal business, anything that uses self adhesive will not last .

rubber shrinks and ages with time .

i will post a picture of a silicone seal that will work, it’s installed with our two part clear silicone cement .

For about $8. I bought silicone rubber tube, 1/4" OD, 1/8" ID, it is black, supper flexible weather/UV resistant. I slipped it under the door rubber flap that is on the door. Just the section above the window. The vertical side has no flap to insert the tube. The wind noise stopped!

Hey Greg, nice work. Anyway you could provide a link to the tube you purchased? Thanks!

Hello Greg any chance you can share a picture.

I got the 3M L rubber seal and put it on door and connecting frame but there is still some wind noise. It is better but I am still getting some buffeting sounds.

Totally unrelated (my R1T is pretty quiet to my ears), but Amazon must know I've been clicking on some of y'alls links and just recommended this product to me:

Rivian R1T R1S Wind noise solved at last -- using tube rubber seal 1717600984162-i9

Waiting to see someone bold and do their vehicle in red, haha. ?

Man can someone make a video of the installation of this. Wind noise is the most damn annoying part of this truck/suv.. I've taken it to the service center 3 times and they still can't fix the issue.

I had my T in Normal for some minor service items, one of them was some wind noise I thought was coming from the drivers triangle window. They fixed it and said the the seal had not been installed correctly. Could not see that anything was wrong but apparently there was. The noise wasn't bad but it is completely gone now. Might be something to have them look into.
