They are having a fire sale in Korea on the EV9 according to Korean Media with nearly 30% discounts.....EV9 Discount from Korean Media

"Kia’s large electric sports utility vehicle (SUV), the EV9, is having a surprise year-end sales promotion with nearly 30 percent off. Normally the margin rate of electric vehicles is within 10 percent, but this massive sales discount has made the price of a new EV9 lower than that of a secondhand EV9.

Since Dec. 4, some EV9 models have been sold at prices as low as the mid-50 million won range, according to industry sources on Dec. 7. On Kia’s website, the base price of the EV9 (6-seater Air Trim 2WD) was 77.28 million won (US$59,116), and some models were discounted by 22 million won, resulting in actual prices at the 55 million won range. The EV9 (Earth Trim 4WD) model, which has a higher base price of 85.98 million won, was marked down by up to 26 million won after receiving various benefits such as inventory discounts and electric vehicle subsidies. Thus the price dipped to the early 60 million won range.

The EV9 was launched with the title of Korea’s first large electric SUV. Its high price of up to 100 million won, when including various options and some quality controversies that arose after its release, limited the actual number of EV9s sold to only 3,685 units until last September. Compared to pre-order sales, this is a paltry figure. In September, Kia jumped into the price war, offering a 30 percent discount to employees (including close relatives) to clear out the stock of EV9s."

This struck EV9 buyers as a betrayal, as they had paid full prices and even pre-ordered the model because of a high price beyond the subsidized price range. Moreover, if a large number of cheap EV9s are released to the market in a year or two, it will inevitably affect the price of used EV9s in the future and such EV9 buyers have strongly complained about it.

In fact, EVs with this inventory discount are selling more cheaply than used EV9 cars. Currently, used EV9 prices on a used car trade platform are in the 70 million won range for the 2WD Earth model.

I wouldn't bother but then again I wouldn't have ordered one to begin with. I don't like how much Kia dealers scalped people with their ADMs so it's a principle thing for me.
This is an issue for me as well. The dealer I bought my 2022 Telluride from sold at MSRP. Mere weeks after I took delivery, the dealership was bought but another car group who immediately added a $7,500 market adjustment fee. As high as that was, there were other local dealers adding upwards of $15k, though some of that was for things like an extended warranty, maintenance and wheel insurance. That Kia USA did nothing to reign in this dealer abuse makes me very reluctant to buy another vehicle from that company.
Given how Kia dealers treat their customers I have a feeling they will not be bothered at all by you refusing it (if that is what you choose to do) because they will just mark it up even more for the next person.
The consistently poor rating of Kia dealerships in the JD Power surveys is well-deserved.
Let us know the dealer markup. I have one on order as well but won't pay a penny above MSRP.
I'm waiting to hear back from the sales manager at my local Kia dealership on this. My guess is that they will be evasive, or at least non-committal about added fees but will in the end apply them. Customers will learn this only when they are notified that their EV 9 is available for delivery.

By the way, the top-trim level of the EV 9 has 285/45 tires on 21" wheels. Less range the the other trim levels on 20" wheels. Curious.

Just for good measure, and I've mentioned this on here last month. I emailed Kia corporate about this exact issue and here is their exact response:

"The Kia dealerships are independently owned and operated and set the final price. Regrettably, we are unable to modify dealer pricing. We can only recommend the MSRP as published on www.kia.com."

I, of course, thanked them for helping decide not to buy a car from them this time around.

Looks like I’ll be going there tomorrow afternoon to check out my reserved SUV. Should be an interesting conversation once they tell me about their BS dealer markup.

this is just how things work with the franchise business model.

When we got our Bronco Raptor (for the original MSRP well over a year ago, we were the exception. The rule was crazy markups (some at $30 to $50k). Ford said they wanted to rein it in, but didn’t have much power to do a thing. They even recommended preorder holders get signed contracts because there was so much shenanigans going on.

Happy that dumpster fire is over though it was fun having vehicles for six to 48 months and having no depreciation… :)

i would absolutely test drive it. depending on your needs, the EV9 may be a better vehicle for you.

i certainly think it has some compelling features and better utility and family oriented stuff than the R1S. its also cheaper, will charge slightly faster, has bi-drectional charging, is very likely more efficient and wont have issues with vampire drain, and comes with free charging (1,000 kWh - which Rivian should have done from the get go. they were giving free charging anyways but didnt get any good PR about it and most folks who got their vehicles have either never gotten to use it or used it very little. they should have capped it by amount not time - missed opportunity imo)

anywho, if you dont need the offroading and insane acceleration (EV9 is still fast too), which most of us dont, and if the ride/drive dynamics are good, it would be worth switching. range is comparable.

Companies should stop doing this IMO. It causes really illogical and poor behavior.

Sell it to the Count.
There's your friend to sell it to at cost... Except, there's no more room in The Count's vehicle list on this site, so maybe sell me the '69 Cobra at cost? We can do this like that David Attenborough hermit crab switching video.

Seems worth a look, EV9 sounds like a pretty nice vehicle (at least at MSRP).

But what trim is it? One thing I noticed is the different trims are pretty different. Every Rivian is fast, every Rivian is 4WD, every Rivian has decent range. With the Kia I think you have to choose. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You are not wrong. Huge HP and torque differences between trim. Glad to see a six seat option though.

You are absolutely right about the spec differences among the various trim levels. The least expensive models are RWD, with the cheapest having a 76.1 kWh battery pack and a claimed 230 mile range. The higher level trims can be had with AWD and a 99.8 kWh capacity battery pack. The Long-range RWD variant with the larger battery has a claimed range of 304 miles, but all other variants are 270 - 280 miles

As far as pricing, the RWD models range from the mid $50k level to about $60k. The AWD goes from there up to roughly $75k, with a relatively modest range of 270 miles, so roughly similar in price, performace and range to the dual-motor R1S. The Kia may have an advantage over the Rivian in battery technology and charging speed but their dealer network is abominable and should give pause to anyone thinking of spending nearly $80k on a Kia.

Please record it for the group ?
Haha… the best I can do is paraphrase everything I can remember.

Btw, it seems like my Kia dealership experience is already beginning. The guy texted me this morning saying that the truck delivered my vehicle to the wrong dealership. They are expecting to get it back on the 21st, and will reschedule with me. :CWL:

I got the GT trim because if we had to choose a color, it’d probably be blue, and they locked that color choice out only to the higher trim levels. Also the GT is most close to the R1S performance-wise (but still far from matching my quad R1S).
