I think charging is improving.
Once Tesla opens their chargers and we get the adapter, I think "range anxiety" will be a thing of the past....well at least for more of the suburban areas and not the EV wasteland (i.e. Montana, Dakotas etc).

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
I’ve been driving trucks forever, so am very used to the limitations imposed by a long wheelbase vehicle that is also absurdly wide.

Buying a truck and getting rid of a truck because it’s a truck and you don’t like how the truck behaves actually seems somewhat normal. In all honesty I wish more people thought like OP and downsized to the best vehicle for their 90% use case.

I’ve always been a 2-vehicle person - a truck, and a smaller / more practical / fun car. The R1T satisfies both for me.

The R1T does drive smaller because it just drives well but parking it in urban settings is a challenge. I will take my sedan when I know I need to go shopping because it’s just harder to find spots where I can fit, except Costco.

R1S is a lot more maneuverable in tight spots. I'd push people towards one of them if they aren't sure they need a pickup.
R1S is about a foot shorter in both overall length and wheelbase, strangely the reason I bought an R1T.

It feels smaller than it is (it's really a 3 ton + very long behemoth) in my opinion because of two things. One as an EV all the weight is down low making the the center of gravity lower than most vehicles this size. Two, the suspension keeps everything in control so no large flopping around like other large vehicle without good suspension control. Additionally the turning radius seems smaller than possible on this vehicle.

The truck storage has been great on the Bend road trip. I love being able to put multiple day packs in the truck bed while using the Interrobang tonneau cover. I’m keeping extra puffy layers for my son and his guest in the frunk. I won’t have any storage limits for their suitcases to the airport while I have all the extra gear gear I brought in the truck. None of it will be in the cab.

At home, the truck bed with the tonneau cover off is great for the bike, and I use the gear tunnel for my cycling bag with shoes, helmet, emergency tube, a bike pump, and extra clothing for wardrobe adjustments at the starting point.

I agree completely, plus I bought a dump trailer to use behind it, which is even more usefull than a pickup truck bed.

Ok. So you don’t like a pickup. But then complain about charging so you want an ICE. Seems Like a troll post.
How is disliking 2 things about it a troll post? Doesn’t like the charging on road trips, so he decides to go ICE. Decides he doesn’t need a truck so he buys a sedan. Those are two fairly large reasons to get rid of the R1T.

Give the troll stuff a rest... you can't have more than one reason for moving on?

I also agree w/the OP.. it's a large vehicle compared the to the Model 3 and it's a pain maneuvering in tight, crowded parking lots with narrow stalls. It's also got limited range compared to other EV's so not the ideal road trip vehicle. He tried it for a year and decided to move on... how is that a "troll post"?

If R1T is the first truck you have ever owned, absolutely true that it is cumbersome to drive. I came from model X, and I don’t enjoy having to do 3 point maneuvers in parking lots. Its turning radius is good for a truck, but can’t compare to shorter wheel base cars. When I have to drive to Denver downtown, I much prefer driving model Y or X. This is where Cybertruck shines. R1T will clearly benefit from rear wheel steering and steering by wire. The first time I tested EQS SUV. I became a believer in rear wheel steering technology.

While I love the Rivian experience I came to the coclusion this was not the vehicle for me at this time. I did give it a solid year. As my first pickup truck I found it very useful but cumbersome to maneuver in urban streets and parking lots as I was used to a small sedan (Tesla 3) prior to the R1T and every time I pulled it into the garage it was an accident waiting to happen as it barely fit. It drove nicely and the performance was amazing but 90% of the time I was the only occupant so I did not need the space. I did like the fact I could go off road during a zombie apocalypse but so far no zombies so I stayed on the pavement. When I had my 3 I only drove local so charging issues was not a consideration, but now I will be taking some road trips and I do not want to worry about finding a charge station or non functioning chargers. So I want back to an ICE vehicle and it also helped that the trade in value was higher than my net cost as I had early pricing less fed and state incentives. I’m thinking in 2 years I’ll be looking at the smaller Rivian and the charging infrastructure will be much improved, we’ll see!
Dude! It’s all about climate change. I am very disappointed that you did not go back to another electric vehicle. I’ve driven pickups all of my life and the R1t is the easiest to maneuver and park than any that I have ever owned. Also has the best ride, way better than my wife’s Model S.
Think about the future.

Speaking of Mercedes.. I have a EQE loaner right now while my truck is at the SC; two weeks sitting with no start. But WOW enjoying the EQE, I hadn't been in any of the new gen Mercedes EV's, interior is on another level. Dead silent in the cabin, i forget im well over the speed limit on the highway. Bermester sound system is quite a bit better than the R1T Meridian system I have (though not all Bermester systems are created equal, GLC isnt great). Also zero vampire drain.

It is my first truck purchase as well, we often end up taking the Model Y anywhere we know is going to be a busy parking lot or structure. The surround view camera helps A LOT on the Rivian, I use it all the time while parking. If the benz had slightly better throttle response and a pet / dog mode, I would really consider it. The exterior design is not to my liking (def prefer the Rivian), fortunately you're usually inside the cabin and thats where it stands out.

People are really underestimating the impact this is going to have. In 10 years we will look back at this as the catalyst that enabled widespread EV adoption.

Yes, another level when it comes to NVH and interior, but the price point in EQ is much higher. I didn’t like its user interface and interior space packaging was not as good. I,however, loved EQS’s rear steering. It made a large car so much more nimble.

Agreed MSRP is nutty compared to other vehicles when looking at range and performance, a big benz tax for sure. I havent looked into it enough, but I know the EQ's are sitting on benz lots and they are doing a lot to incentivize leases and sales, so wouldn't be surprised if a good deal / steep discount could be had. I hate the dealer experience, the Rivian point of sale experience was so much better (like our Tesla), but I am not super happy with the service experience and wait long times, both to get in and then to get fixes. Hoping things will improve.
