Has Rivian upgraded the MagSafe charger?

I picked up my R1S 10 days ago. I’m not having any issues with getting the factory MagSafe charger to charge my iPhone 12. And I find the slight texture on the pad keeps it from sliding around. The only issue I’ve had is if I want to use Apple Maps on my iPhone and need to see the phone screen better I have to prop it up a bit on the lid of the console.

There is no MagSafe charger. The included inductive charger works better for some than others. That said, Rivian has already stated they intend to make a better version but provided no further timeline or details.

2024 model year picked up 12/30… iPhone 12 Pro… after removing case, I still have to move the phone all over the pad to try to find the sweet spot for charging. So no, I don’t think there has been any noticeable improvement. At least in R1Ts. I’ll be going the aftermarket route for a better choice.

Huh. We charge two at once, but ours are the smaller and older iPhones.

Works great in my wife’s R1S that was delivered in March 2023. Does not work in my R1T, delivered in September 2022

Got R1T Dec 31st 2023. Wife has Iphone 14 and I have a Samsung Z-fold and neither work, they just slide around. This is with cases on.

To be fair if I spend enough time messing I can get it to start charging but then as soon as I move it just slides off.

I'm debating on changing my 12 Pro's case to a grippier silicone one, or just get sOOnish's newly revised Magsafe pad. With current case it does charge, but as soon as it slides it doesn't until in just the right place again. This can be a bit annoying at night because out of my peripheral I can see the phone screen turning on and off over-and-over.

it working has been better for some worse for others. i think the main issue was it became unusable once you started driving. that being said, maybe they did update the surface of the charger. can you share a pic?

Glad it worked for you, but it didn’t work well at all for us, also on a March 2023 R1S. I resorted to getting an aftermarket solution that I’m happy with though.

The Rivian charging pad is AMAZING. As long as you only go straight and don’t go over about 15 mph. If you turn or accelerate, your phone will fly off. Not sure how they missed that when testing during off-roading, etc.

Sadly, the easiest USB C port to get to is the one behind the front passenger headrest. If I need legit charge, that’s where I go.

The best I can see is 1100ma, so probably 1500ma gross. As soon as I drive it doesn't work.

Rivian missed the boat on this feature and my best guess is the may update it during the 2024 refresh. I could NEVER get my iPhone 14 Pro to charge on the Rivian mat.

I went with https://adventurehightech.com/ for their Stow N Charge Mat and couldn't be happier....easy to charge two phones all day long. This is the solution Rivian should have made from the get-go. I also have a friend with the Adventure Mat and it works well.

I believe there's other solutions out there in this space...but I've been pretty happy with Adventure High Tech's solution in my R1T

The StowNCharge seems to be a great solution… but substantially back ordered. I started at position 316 in the queue at the beginning of this year. As of today I am about 13 weeks out from estimated availability:
