My R1S has really bad wind noise in the cabin. At first I thought maybe it’s just not an aerodynamic vehicle. But I’ve driven big cars like Expedition and Rovers that are not aerodynamic and all much quieter. I recently got my car back from service and notice a whistling sound. Almost like a sound the kettle makes. I have a ticket for service. I’m wondering if anyone else had this issue? And is loud cabin just a Rivian build quality thing?

Had an R1S as a loaner a few months back. Low mileage. Loud wind noise from top of driver’s door 65 and above. Rain also came in the top of the door. My guess bad door alignment and or seal.

Do you have cross bars?

Mine had a loud noise today on my way to work. When I got to work, there was a big chunk of ice frozen to the part just above the windshield on the passengers side. I removed it. When I drove it home tonight, no noise. Will post back if it reappears.

My R1S has the loudest cabin wind noise of any vehicle I've owned (except for a 1966 Ford Mustang). Removing cargo bars helps, but it's still very annoyingly loud. I turned on adaptive sound, so the radio volume will automatically increase as I speed up. That helps a little. ?‍♂

The noise of 20” AT hitting the concrete highway in CA mutes the wind noises.

Yes I have cross bars completely secured and locked.
Try them removed as generally any vehicle has increased noise with a rack. My R1T is super quiet but there have definitely been more reports of noise associated with R1S on the forum.

I had extreme wind noise from around the driver's side door at speeds above 60. Sounded like the window was open.

I took it in for service and as I was explaining the situation the tech looked at the door and I could see a large gap at the top of the door that he was checking out. They fixed it in a day and it's super quiet now

I have them too and I feel I have now gotten use to the loud cabin.

This seems to be a fitment issue on some R1S’s. Mine has it from the top front corner on the passenger side, though it’s only moderate in my case. I’m going to ask them to fix it when I take it in.

There are a few threads on here regarding wind noise and hacks to fix it. One poster from the UAE went to great lengths to successfully silence his vehicle through adjustments to door and trim seals and gaps (sounded like he was enjoying himself and had taken similar steps with other vehicles).

I had a lot of wind noise at first on my R1S. After multiple service visits the car is practically silent.

Main culprits:
1. Door adjustments. Especially rear passenger door adjustments and alignment. My rear passenger doors were hard to close and were slightly out if alignment. When this was fixed the wind noise level dropped drastically.
2. Front driver triangular side window adjustment.
3. Addition of some extra door seal stripping.

@JJE did the service center isolate the issues for you or did you have to diagnose yourself and have them address each section ?

does anyone have a whistling noise?

Have lots of wind noise and whistling. Rivian has refused to do anything. Stating it’s normal. I shared videos and my me and my wife’s complaints on the noise. Comparing it to other R1’s but again.. nothing. And it’s all taking away from the driving experience.

At one point on a recent drive with the tech I was asked to fold the windows in on the highway, making the wind noise much worse. Somehow that increase in noise suggested that it was all normal per the service tech. It made no sense to me. I’ve tried several of the online suggestions. Additional weather stripping etc on certain areas but it hasn’t helped.

Mind you there’s several owners who have had quarter panel replacements, door adjustments, seal replacements. I’ve had multiple visits with multiple tickets for these issues and they’ve never addressed a single one regarding NVH. Costa Mesa SC.

@Prime I am at Costa Mesa service center also. They aren’t the best to deal with. Been having a nightmare delivery and can’t get the issues resolved.
