Door Handle Activation

Just curious, but I was wondering what the activation mechanism is that pops out the door handles. We had cold weather and snow/rain combo and the handles couldn’t pop out in the morning and the mirrors wouldn’t open. I couldn’t hear anything working to operate them but a quick rap on each handle broke the ice and each silently popped into place. It almost seems like they are air activated.

They are spring loaded, when in open position. You can push them and they will go inside. They "opened" when you unlocked the car. They popped out when the ice was removed.

You can press on the indented portion of the handle to make it pop out if there’s ice on it.

I opened my truck the other morning after rain and freezing temp and it was all crunch crunch for the mirrors and door handles. Crunch to depress button to unplug the truck, crunch to close the charging door and backing out of the driveway crunch of the tonneau cover ice moving around.

Everything worked though. Parked in the sun at work and it was all clear by the time I left to go home.

Wonder why we can’t have an option to turn off the presented door handles.
Let us push the dimple part to open the door. Like Tesla.
Then at least no one will know when the doors are unlocked…

This happens in car wash mode, but agree that this should be an option for regular use. I set it to unlock only the driver door for this exact reason.

That would be a great option to be able to manually push/pull the lever when getting close to the vehicle, just like Tesla. Particularly when the vehicle has Proximity Auto Unlock mode disabled. I wouldn’t have to fumble with my phone to manually unlock. Software update please…
