Zero chance I would buy at today's prices. Especially given the rough QC that constantly being reported.
In that boat. Rivian wants me to configure and we've been putting it off. Rivian took so long that we ended up buy a Model Y and I just don't see the motivation to go and spend much more. Granted the R1S is a superior car in every way, but I'm not willing to pay what Rivian wants me to pay at the current rates. So I'll sit tight for now.

If the model Y is enough for you right now, i don't think you need a R1S.

But for people that actually need a R1S to be R1S, there's not many other options. The DM/Large compares well to ICE vehicles of similar size. On the other hand, the 10k bump in battery cost makes it really bad comparison

Agreed. The Model Y fulfills our needs now, but won't in a year or so. So we'll be due for an upgrade, still find the price a bit too steep for my liking.

I would want it cheaper too... but I doubt cars of this size and capability are not at a premium compared to the next size down. Look at GLS, Q7, etc.

I think the reality, for me anyway that wants to buy another quarter million mile vehicle, is just to chill. We need the functional 3rd row (sorry model Y), we need the price point (subjective, I know), and we need something reliable. And for those of you that have had "zero problems", that's great. And for the rest of you that have had "stellar service experiences", that's great too. But at this stage in life, above all, I need a vehicle that isn't just reliable, but I can rely on. The latter including a mindset that I shouldn't have to worry about a full shutdown on the freeway or busy intersection. Or replacing a drive unit or HV pack out of warranty.

And for the inevitable, "well then a Rivian isn't for you" that I'm still hearing. Oh really? Who's it for then? What kind of person thinks that that's an acceptable goal post two years after production starts?

Good on you for looking at the long game to see when an upgrade from one to another will fit you. No sense shoehorning a 6 figure vehicle into the chaos of life before you are ready.

Same, I'm jealous of the people who say they've driven 20k+ miles without issue. Without the pre-price hike and IRA rebate it's really not that great of a deal. I would've leased it if that option was available in the beginning. I feel like a beta tester and wonder how new people who aren't so tech oriented will deal with a new Rivian and the various quirks.

Bronco Sport . Ordering R1S very soon
I'm considering trading in my R1T for an R1S, and placed an R1S reservation on Nov 8, 2023. Today I checked my account and I have the ability to configure. Really surprised I was able to configure so quickly. I wonder if the demand is slowing, or they are just trying to match existing vehicles as quickly as possible for the end of year results.
There are plenty for a quick delivery and one to two weeks if you just look online…

My 2010 Avalanche shutdown on the highway a few months after I took delivery. There was a defective sensor in the throttle position sensor.

Ford Bronco Sports and Dodge RAMS have had this issue, as well as plenty of other vehicles.

My point is that it can happen to any vehicle. There were isolated reports of this happening to Rivians in the past few years. Have you noticed that there have been no reports of this recently (at least that I have seen), while tens of thousands more Rivians have been sold? Don't make a mountain out of a molehill, or single out Rivian for something that in reality happens to new vehicles from all manufacturers. Your magnifying glass is scrutinizing Rivian, take a look at other brands and you will see similar isolated incidents.

Brand new white on white quad with 22’ only bid to 80k, you’d be silly to not wait for a price drop at this point
Very surprising that no one bid higher, especially given that configuration costs 98k MSRP now.

Bruh, there's a post per week using the term brick and/or shutdown. It's certainly not a solved issue....

Early reservation holder filppers are just trying to get rid of it now. After buyer's fees and a possible 7.5k savings on a new purchase, the prices are within 5k-10k? There's definitely a drop off for Quads.

I wonder what the difference would be if a DM ever shows up for resale as "new-ish"

I was specifically referring to shutting down on the highway, which is a specific item you pointed out. There is not a post every week regarding shutting down on the highway, lol.
