I'm considering trading in my R1T for an R1S, and placed an R1S reservation on Nov 8, 2023. Today I checked my account and I have the ability to configure. Really surprised I was able to configure so quickly. I wonder if the demand is slowing, or they are just trying to match existing vehicles as quickly as possible for the end of year results.

It said within 4 months the last time I looked on website.

R1S will be very popular. Demand for vehicles in general is slowing down right now due to economic factors such as higher interest rates and rising costs for food, insurance, etc. Folks have started to cut back their spending.

Also, Rivian has cleared a lot of their backlog and may be on an end of year push.

My guess is that at the point demand slows significantly, they'll start to do advertising, which they seem to do very little of at this point.

I’m sure demand is going down somewhat. There are only so many buyers that can afford a vehicle at this price. In the states where EVs are more popular, sales are still strong, and nationally the used EV market is strong. Leasing might help move more R1 vehicles.

Specific models are also still doing well, like the Ioniq5/ EV6, Mach E and even the ID.4. The fact that those models are still selling well should be a good sign for the R2 line. I think there are a bunch of folks who want EVs in that price range. The Blazer EV should do well.

I just got an email from Rivian asking how long until I plan on ordering my Rivian. I said 6+ months. I think they're ramping up and trying to find homes for all these vehicles. They may need to start getting more than the reservation holders into the mix.

I do wonder how many people are waiting for the Standard Pack. And I wonder how many people just can't buy it right now because they're too far away from a service center. Someone (I think on Reddit) showed a map of the area covered by the current and planned service centers. It leaves a lot of gaps. I suspect they're trying to increase their service centers in size and quantity as fast as possible as a limiting factor of how many vehicles they can sell.

At this moment the company has foothold in less than half of states. For example, Texas is not yet "activated", so to say, and some other states.

I placed my reservation for an R1S on November 7, 2022, and I just received my invitation to build last week! They must be catching up with their backlog. Two weeks ago, I did change my delivery address from 275 miles away from the nearest service center, to just 78 miles away. I figured that made the difference in why I received the invitation to build. Either way, I'm happy to see things are moving along for those who have been waiting! My account shows a 1-4 month build time as well.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
There were an astonishing number of R1S’s prepped for delivery at the SSF SC when I dropped my truck off yesterday. Production is ramping fast.

I joined the waitlist for an R1S in July 2022 and was invited to configure this past Oct. However, at that time, the configuration didn’t give an option for a quad-motor so we held off. Has that since changed? If not, it could be that they are releasing more people from the waitlist because so many are waiting on quad-motor config.

I ended up getting access to the shop and was able to select a quad motor with the exact configs I wanted, aside from tires. Spoke with the delivery team and they were able to switch out to the tires I wanted ahead of vehicle pickup.

Another data point from NYC - July 2023 reservation, received invitation to configure a week ago. Also have shop access where there are 150+ R1S's (almost all quad motor).

At some point this year the CEO indicated that new orders might have to wait until well into 2024 or even early 2025, but I don't think that's true anymore.

I'm assuming they weren't gifting those tires?

Was there a green one there? That's mine! lol.

I think people are expecting sales to follow ramps like the Model 3 had which is obviously not going to happen for a $100k SUV/Truck. Sales will taper off at a good level for a vehicle at this price point and I'm sure that will trigger a lot of "demand is falling" stories. The bread and butter was always meant to be the R2 platform and until that turns on, we'll see overall sales slow in acceleration and sky is falling critics come pouring out. Likely a bump in demand when the refresh comes out but I think people need to temper their expectations on output. This was never meant to be a large volume car, but something that gets Rivian on the map and sets the stage for a mass market vehicle.
