If demand was decreasing why wouldn't Rivian step up marketing. When I'm out and about all I get asked is "what is that, who makes that?" I've yet to see a series of ads. This is just my experience and conclusion. I may very well be wrong.
I think that is the plan with the marketing exec hire.

I just wish everything wasn't seemingly so reactionary on their part.

Rivian missed a chance to leverage Ben the rapper in the Dunkings.

How cool would that have been? Ben in a Dunkings wrapped R1S!

Does anyone know if there is employee pricing yet? I know cash is tight and not all employees can buy a 70k+ vehicle. But EP would help with some morale, more insight into service and help move and building inventory.

I think some of the issue is that people still have no idea that Rivian exists. Here in SW Michigan, there are maybe ~5 Rivian vehicles in my medium/large sized town(350k+), and I get questions all the time when I am out. "How do you say that?" "Who makes that?" "What kind of car is that?" And those are just the people who are actually asking. I am sure there are just as many who are thinking it and not asking. There just isn't the brand recognition yet outside of the hotspots like CA.
"But who makes it?"..... SMH

Marketing has started on social media. You should be seeing them if you browse electric vehicles or the luxury brands or are considered in the target demo.

I know we no longer care about the R1 vehicles anymore, but is anyone else wondering why there are ~900 R1T's in the shop but only ~150 R1S?

If anything, the R1S should have more inventory as it is twice as popular as the R1T.

Seems like it would make sense to shift R1T capacity over to making more R1S but perhaps its not that easy.

Even fewer R1S in the shop today - maybe 100 or so...

My first thought is that the R1S' popularity results in fewer making it to the shop at all. Those that do end up in the shop are being sold at a faster rate than the R1Ts in the same position.

I still believe Rivian culls the availability near the end of quarters down to vehicles they can deliver before the end of the quarter. I wouldn't look at falling numbers as increase in demand.

Just to add to this, they need to make more DMs. At least in Canada, it's incredibly rare a DM R1S makes it into the shop and when they do, they get snapped up fast

I know I'm stating the obvious here, but with all of the euphoria over the R2, R3 and R3X over the past week, let's not forget that Rivian needs to sell a whole lot of R1's over the next couple of years! Rivian is having to walk such a fine line here. I know of one friend who is really excited about the R2 and has made a reservation (great!), but he and his wife were considering an R1 and I think may have pulled the trigger soon. Now they're not (boo!).

There may be some truth to the "osborne effect" - in this case potential cannibalization of the R1S by the prospect of R2.

I could see it happening if you are not wedded to having a 7-seater vehicle and are price sensitive + willing to wait a few years. And visually I'm not sure I would be able to tell them apart if they were not side by side!

I think RJ said that a few thousand vehicles that would normally be produced in Q1 will be pushed out to April as they are waiting on a new part. If those are all R1S then that could explain the relatively limited selection in the shop.

Which is why they need to refresh the R1 line and distinguish it from R2. Failing to do so will result in a lot of potential R1S buyers waiting for the R2.

While I dont disagree, I dont think a refresh is needed just yet. I think the R1S should be refreshed with the release of the R2.

The R1S being a 3 row is the big differential for me, although I do wish it had a 2 row option.
And while not being a BIG CHONKEY SUV, its certainly not small.

I was surprised over the weekend, I had a total of 8 people in my R1S, all were comfortable for our short 35 mile round trip. And other than all the voices in the truck, I could not tell it had that many people in it.
