As everything on the R1 platform this is waaay over-engineered.
I agree they could recoup all the lost 30 grand per vehicle by not including this speaker as standard :D
And the saddest part that probably 90% of user base does not uses it...
Aside from connecting / testing to make sure it worked at delivery (and realizing it's as quiet as a church mouse), I've used mine exactly zero times in 10 months.

Plenty of room in the R1 for a real portable speaker (like a JBL PartyBox) if I need music I can actually hear outdoors.

There are a lot of people saying theirs's isn't loud. I am beginning to think all the newer versions are a lot quieter. Anyone with an R1 in the last year have a loud speaker?

since it has the ability to do low latency, multi-room audio streaming and multi-speaker pairing, rivian should really allow it to connect to the car's audio system to provide a little extra bass in the R1S. bass is so anemic, a little extra thump in the front of the cab would be nice!

I took delivery of my R1S back in Oct 2023 and my speaker’s volume was low. Rivian recently replaced it with a brand new in box and the volume was also low. So, if there was a version change, it would have been before Oct ‘23 cuz I found no difference in terms of volume.

I will say that the new one does seem to pair slightly more quickly to my iOS phone than the original. The 1st one seemed to be hit or miss and usually needed to be forgotten and paired again.

That said, I just went to use it again last night after a couple months of inactivity in the bay and after a vehicle upgrade…. I needed to pair the speaker again to my phone as it wouldn’t recognize.

But once it paired, it was fine again- quick at reconnecting. However, a new quirky thing was the camp light would not turn on. I had to preform a hard-reset (holding down the pairing button on the back for 30s). Once reset performed, the light started working again.

In short, this speaker is a bit temperamental and some fussing to get them work right (but the volume is still on the low end - ok for indoor but subpar for outdoor).

After trying my speaker (Jan 2023 build R1T) it's been put up in the attic and replaced by the BestEvMod Lockable Camp Speaker Drawer Organizer.

I was hoping to use the Rivian speaker for outdoor kitchen, parties, etc.. but it's serious lack of bass response was just joy draining. Maybe if they had used a decent mid/woofer with an actual large magnet they would have gotten some bass out of it? it's just crazy that my JBL Charge 5 is much smaller, but has much more bass than the large, heavy Rivian camp speaker.

So I don’t use the camp speaker mostly due the fact I already have plenty of other bluetooth speakers. I just don’t need another one, so I thought what if I could convert the camp speaker into a usable box. Well I didn’t but I did tear it down. I ended up putting back together to keep everything original.

Mine was May 2022 delivery. It is loud with a lot of base. I typically use it in the garage but I have used it camping as well.
