Need sticky, quiet 20's!

Any thoughts on the expected ice performance on the 20" Michelin Defender LTX Platinum compared to the OEM 20" Pirellis?

My Pirellis are super loud at 21k miles. Plenty of tread left but need to replace as they are way too loud.
I've loved the tire until recently. Pretty quiet, decent on snow and ice.

Looking at Michelin Defender LTX Platinum but the 70k tread life scares me - that would seem to me the tread would be less sticky than a lower mileage tire. Am I mistaken there? I don't care all that much about tread life or efficiency. I drive on a fair amount of ice, but not enough to warrant winter tires. Pirellis worked well enough. Not sure if I'd be better off ordering 3 new Pirellis and swapping my full sized spare? Is that viable? Or am I better off with a Michelin (or another road tire recommendation? Don't need A/T tires.)

Platinum definitely not the tire for you if ice performance is a metric you need…Nokian might be what you are looking for…

I like the looks of the Michelin Defender LTX Platinum but it's such a new tire there's just not a lot of data out there on it. FWIW, it is not a 3PMS tire...but that marketing splash is only for added traction in snow, not on ice.

I'd love a good AS tire with 3PMS that's not overly heavy that'll do an honest 50k miles. but alas I keep looking...

I’m in the same boat, 20k and I’m tired of the noise and have thought about just getting 3 new OEM 20’s and using spare, keeping a noisy one for spare.

Just put on ltx platinums. 200 miles in so far and they are meeting all my requirements: silent, smooth, much improved road handeling, modest efficiency bump(more mileage needed for conclusive determination), look great! No winter testing yet, but plan on using dedicated winters next year.

What size are the LTX Platinums? Are they an exact comparable, size-wise, to the OEM 20" AT Pirellis? What I'm really getting at is if they are 65 sidewalls so the range estimates stay (relatively) accurate?

I returned these tires and got Continental TerrainContact HT instead. The Platinums were smooth, quiet, and didn’t transmit noise from control joints or train tracks. However, on snow covered Michigan highways, they didn’t inspire confidence. I even had to put the truck in 4wd to back up a suburban concrete driveway several times. They were better at compacting snow than cutting through it. In rain they were much better. Only a minor tug on the wheel when going through puddles. They do look cool too. But the Terraincontact are just as quiet, have a similar warranty, cut through snow and slush better and are less expensive.”

I prefer the Brights

I wouldn't expect great things out of any all season in areas that get regular snow.

I recently bought some BFGoodrich KO3’s and although new have been very quiet and are very sticky! I plan to make a post over the coming week with some opinions on them.

I'm leaning towards this route. Don't have a spare go to waste that way, and get some time for more tire data. Will the spare rubber be any different than new after a year and a half semi exposed to the elements?
