Someone on this board also found the filings for the layoffs in the facility in upstate NY.

Thanks ELMO!

This is what I suspected has happened.

It would be helpful if anyone has received Rivian supplied (Tesla made) adapter recently if they’d share their VIN range just to get an idea of how badly the latest dumpster fire Elmo started is affecting this.

As of 4 weeks ago, I meet another R1T owner at an EA who had received the address confirmation email a few days earlier. His VIN is in the 3K range. I imagine he’s received it since but other than that data point and no mention in this thread, there’s no good sense for progress. It’d be far more helpful and insightful if those receiving the Rivian adapters were sharing their VIN k range.

At least we have access to the superchargers (for now). Imagine being GM who was supposed to be next in May I think. They are going to be delayed for a long time.

I just placed my order for the A2Z adapter. Hopefully it gets here before my road trip.

If not, ICE it is. (which might actually be cheaper anyways)

Tesla ships adapters to Ford and Rivian, and then those companies ship them to their customers? Is it difficult to ship pallets of adapters to a company? How much record keeping and coordination with shipping companies, etc is involved? How much of the work is done by the shipping company? Would someone with shipping experience between companies give this rumor a sanity check?

Actually... There is no sanity... Except that Ford and Rivian are likely trying to keep our identities private, which when you read that last line, it will make no sense.

Typically, like they do on the forums here for some of the sponsors that have a 3rd party shipping facility...

We place an order with (fill in the blank), they send that order to their 3rd party shipping/warehouse company, and that item gets shipped out...

Or..

We place an order with (fill in the blank), a employee goes to the back room, picks that order, puts it in a box, places a label on it, and ships it out.

Simple as bing bang boom..

Rivian...

Rivian takes our order, Rivian then sends that order to Tesla as a batch order, Tesla then sends that batch order to its 3rd party manufacture, that 3rd party manufacture sends the ordered product in batch form to Tesla, who then ships that product in batch form back to Rivian/Ford, Rivian than breaks down the product in batch order to individual orders, and reships them back out to the individual end user.

For a company thats supposed to be energy conscious, theres at least 2-5 extra steps in there that dont need to happen, all in the name of making our purchase info private... To a company that will get it anyways for warranty registration purposes, or when we plug into their charging station, or when we sign up for the app to get cheaper rates.

if he did I have questions I got my opt in email end of April and no others since. I was hopeful I would have by now as I am planning to drive from OR to MA and spend the summer helping my mom who just had her other hip replaced.

The manufacturer makes adapters, and ships them in bulk to Tesla, but it takes months to redo the process to ship those adapters in bulk to Ford and Rivian? Golly!

How do you know this is what Rivian wanted? Maybe part of the deal was the Tesla would have an exclusive on approved adapters. It would be nice for 3rd party adapters to be officially approved but I have a feeling that's on Tesla to allow.

Unless you have a very low VIN, it's going to take awhile to get a Tesla adapter. Might want to look into a 3rd party one like from A2Z.

Since its not a Rivian part... It dont matter what Rivian wants. Rivian is at the mercy of that vendor, whether its Tesla, or whoever makes the part. Now if Rivian wants to produce the adapter in house... Than we are talking a different story. I would honestly not be surprised if thats not in a future plan to be honest. But then they have to go thru the process of being Tesla approved, and accepted...

Totally agree. Although I do think that Tesla isn't allowing anyone else to make "official" adapters for the superchargers. That's the only reason I can think of that Ford, Rivian, GM, etc would rely 100% on Tesla for the adapters. They could easily make their own or partner with a 3rd party but it seems like Tesla dictated that only their adapters would be officially supported.

If it’s UL certified doesn’t really matter what Riv or Tesla say. Maybe not for HV electronics but UL cert is cheap. If they paid for TUV cert they could feasibly market it as better than the OEM. TUV certs are expensive though. Regardless of magnusson moss the lack of even UL certs make me wary of A2Z or Lectron.

I didn't think the UL cert for DC charging was released yet. So it's not possible for 3rd party adapters to be officially certified (same with Tesla). Wonder if Tesla can exclude any other adapters besides their own? Wouldn't be surprised if that's the case.
