How many drivers do you have configured? When you go to drivers/keys does it show more than one driver?

I'd delete all drivers except for the owner from the vehicle too.

This has to be a payment verification issue. Something our guide mentioned during purchase about my wife’s phone sounds familiar to your issue.

On the screen identifying the drivers’ names and the keys associated with them, is the spelling of your name the same as it is on:
1. Your physical credit card and
2. The name on the payment method in your account?

When you unlock the truck and first get in, what name shows up as the driver?

Looking at the Drivers/Keys screen, who is associated with the key fob?

Did each of you and your wife download the Rivian apps to your phones while taking delivery or did you download the apps and set up your accounts earlier?

Here’s what I’m thinking and yes, this is a Peter Sellers*:
A. I think the truck remembers who the last driver was
B. When attempting to charge at a RAN site, the charger pulls the name of the last driver from the truck and looks up the payment method associated with that driver
C. I suspect there is a disconnect between the unlocking method (fob, phone, or keycard) and the actual driver and the payment info in your account.

Here’s why I’m thinking this. Before delivery, I downloaded and set up my account on my phone. During delivery, my wife downloaded the app and questioned why she needed to enter a payment method. Our guide said she needed to have a payment method in the app if my wife ever wanted to charge the truck. Because the RANs do not ask for payment separately and that they seem able to charge different accounts for charging the same truck, the RANs need to pull some ID from the truck to determine which charge card to bill.

I’m betting on there is a mixup in who the truck thinks is driving and who is actually driving and the billing method associated with that person.

here’s a way to test:
1. Lock the truck
2. Close the Rivian app on each of your phone and your wife’s phone.
3. unlock the truck only using the fob (maybe cycle through drive then park). You want to eliminate any chance that one of the phones races to connect to the truck first.
4. Because the fob is associated with exactly one driver, be sure that driver is the one with the payment method associated with that person.
5. try charging at the RAN

Have you tried ordering anything from the Rivian Store using the Card on file? Just a thought, as that is the card that bills for my RAN account.

All good things to try I think. The difficulty now is the closes RAN to me is like an hour drive away. So I can retest I guess next time I’m near one but then this whole process feels like trial and error over the next few months which is frankly weird to me at this point. Currently I have to assume every RAN to me is off limits which really sucks

Might be easier to try ordering something in the gear shop and see if you CC works.

I've seen other posts on similar problems and it was caused because Rivian only ever uses the primary card of the owner, not the driver. And sometimes the owner is wrong because it's whoever Rivian choose during purchasing, not the person who might be the usual driver

This though sounds like the bank is blocking it. How many cards did OP try?

Actually called the bank and they said the payment was never hitting them at all. At first I thought they were but both credit and debit card with them were tried and the same for a different bank. I’m both the owneer and driver too.

If you know anyone with an adapter, might be a Tesla supercharger closer to you, it uses the card on file for payment.

Hmmmm. So Rivian is not attempting to charge your card at all. You have already checked your name as known by the truck?

Yeah The truck is in my name, my name on the account, my name on the card and the payment isnt even attempted by the bank at all. Id think it would at least get to this step if the rejection was payment details of any kind, but it seems like they are not even trying.

I guess I'm just wondering because I don't necessarily trust one bank rep. Did you try a different card with a different bank and ask them the same question.
